One of the things I love most about aesthetic medicine is seeing how technology continues to evolve.

And Ultraformer MPT is a lovely example of that. 🤍

Having worked with Ultraformer III for years, I was particularly interested in exploring what the updated technology could bring to our clinic.

Ultraformer MPT uses focused ultrasound energy and can be considered as part of an individualised treatment plan for suitable patients.

There’s also an optional topical infusion component, which gives us another element to consider when planning selected treatments.

For me, the exciting part is being able to explore different approaches to skin health.

Every patient has their own skin concerns, anatomy, medical history and treatment goals.

These all play a role in determining whether a particular treatment is appropriate.

And that’s why I always come back to the consultation.

We take the time to assess your skin, discuss the available options and explain the potential benefits, risks and limitations before recommending a treatment.

One thing hasn’t really changed for me over the years.

I love looking at the whole picture.

I’ve seen people come in after repeatedly focusing on one area while everything around it has been forgotten.

That’s when I want to zoom out.

Look at the skin.
Look at proportion.
Look at the neck and décolletage.
Look at what has already been treated.

Then decide whether anything actually needs our attention.

Technology has changed enormously since I started.

My treatment philosophy has become increasingly focused on skin health and rejuvenation too.

But more treatment isn’t automatically better treatment.

I’d rather make a considered decision for the individual sitting in front of me.

I see this a lot when two treatments become popular around the same time.

People immediately want to know which one is better.

I don’t find that particularly helpful because PRX-Plus and Ultraformer MPT do different things.

PRX-Plus is a topical treatment that may be considered when we’re looking at concerns around skin tone, texture and firmness.

Ultraformer MPT uses focused ultrasound technology and may be considered where skin laxity and collagen stimulation are treatment priorities.

One isn’t automatically better than the other.

Sometimes one may be appropriate.

Sometimes another approach may make more sense.

The treatment should follow the assessment, not the other way around.

I didn’t start my career obsessed with skin.

Quite the opposite, actually.

Over time, I became increasingly interested in what was happening to the skin itself.

Texture. Firmness. Collagen. Pigmentation. Redness.

All those little changes that contribute to the bigger picture.

The patient pictured here received four PRX-Plus treatments, spaced one week apart.

It’s a useful example of one patient’s treatment journey, rather than an expectation of what every person will experience.

PRX-Plus is one of the newer additions to our skin offering. It is applied topically, without needles or traditional peeling, and may be considered within an individual treatment plan for concerns including tone, texture and firmness.

What interests me is having different ways to approach skin quality and being able to choose them thoughtfully.

One of my favourite consultations starts with someone saying,

“I’m not really sure what I need.”

Perfect.

You’re not supposed to diagnose your own skin.

I’d much rather hear what you’ve noticed and what you would like to address.

Then I can look at the whole picture.

Skin quality. Structure. Proportion. Your treatment history. The neck and décolletage. Areas that may have been overlooked.

Sometimes what someone thought they needed isn’t where I would start at all.

That’s why I love the consultation process.

It gives us room to think before we treat.

So, what does an Ultraformer MPT appointment actually look like?

Since introducing MPT to the clinic, I’ve noticed the questions have shifted.

People understand the idea of focused ultrasound. What they really want to know is what happens when they’re actually in the treatment room.

How long should I allow?
Can I go back to my day afterwards?
Where can it be used?
And how do we decide what’s appropriate for my skin?

I’ve answered the questions I’m hearing most in today’s carousel.

Aesthetic medicine has changed enormously since I started.

One of the shifts I find most exciting is the attention we’re now giving to the skin itself.

Firmness.
Skin health.
And how all of those things change over time.

This is a big reason I became so interested in technology.

It’s also why I’m interested in having different options available rather than relying on one approach for everyone.

It’s applied topically.

It’s massaged into the skin.

A session takes approximately 30 minutes.

There are no needles and no traditional peeling.

The more interesting conversation is where it may fit into your skin plan.

We may consider PRX-Plus when looking at concerns around tone, texture and firmness. The treatment frequency is also personalised according to your skin and individual goals.

PRX-Plus.

This one takes a different approach.

PRX-Plus is a topical biostimulation treatment. It is massaged directly onto the skin rather than injected.

No needles. No traditional peeling. No planned downtime.

It may be considered as part of a personalised treatment plan for concerns around skin firmness, tone and texture.

And this is the part that interests me.

Over the years, skin quality has become such an important part of how I think about aesthetic medicine.

My relationship with skin technology has changed enormously over the years.

When I first started in cosmetic medicine, I didn’t have nearly the same interest in skin that I do now.

Then I reached a point where I thought, okay, there has to be more we can look at here.

Collagen.
Skin quality.
Firmness.
Texture.

What’s happening beneath the surface.

That curiosity is what pushed me further into technology, and it’s still what drives a lot of the decisions I make in clinic now.

Ultraformer MPT is one of those technologies.

It gives us another option to consider when focused ultrasound is appropriate for someone’s skin, anatomy and treatment goals.

Not everyone needs the same thing.

That’s what keeps this work interesting.
