Why we are raising funds for a New Oven 👨🍳
As we continue planning the community kitchen at the Boonah Drop In Center, one item high on our wish list is a new oven.
To some people it's just an appliance, but to us it's an opportunity.
Many of our participants absolutely love spending time in the kitchen. Mr H and Mr M are always keen to roll up their sleeves, prepare meals, try new recipes and share what they've made with others. Having a quality oven would allow us to expand these activities and create even more opportunities for participants to learn and build confidence.
Cooking teaches so much more than following a recipe. It helps people develop independence, problem-solving skills, teamwork, time management and responsibility. These are skills that can be carried into everyday life and, for some, may even become a stepping stone towards future employment.
We're also excited about the possibility of opening the kitchen up for community cooking programs and workshops. Imagine locals coming together to share recipes, learn new skills, enjoy a meal and build connections.
Food has a way of bringing people together, and we believe this kitchen could become a real hub for learning, friendship and community.
One oven might not sound like much, but the impact it could have on our participants and the wider Boonah community could be huge. ❤️
