Bryce Pace - Autism Advocate, is a small autism consultancy business located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Bryce Pace - Autism Advocate was created in April 2016 when Bryce as a year 11 student wrote a facebook post discussing his disappointment in how his peers were making fun of autism, and also revealing his own diagnosis. Bryce Pace - Autism Advocate believes a world that accepts, embrac

es and includes autism is possible, we just need to work towards this goal. Bryce Pace - Autism Advocate works towards this goal through providing communities, schools and businesses with our innovative interactive autism workshops. In addition to our workshops we also provide environmental audits, public speaking, general consultancy work and through our inovative recharge room services and other projects that assist autistics and their families to access much needed resources and support.

Next month I will be presenting at the Cairns Disability Support Worker Conference on the topic of intersectionality. Lived experience is at the centre of everything I do, which is why I want to ensure lived experience will be at the very heart of my presentation.

If you identify as part of an intersectional community, I would love to hear about your lived experience. Your insights will assist me in providing support workers with practical information about how to support clients with intersectional identities.

All information you provide will be deidentified for the presentation to protect your privacy.

Who Can Participate:
We are looking for input from people within intersectional communities who identify as:
- Neurodivergent
- A person with a disability
- A carer of a neurodivergent individual or person with a disability

To learn more about this opportunity and to share your story head to: https://form.jotform.com/260827724319058

Thank you for assisting me to shape the future of disability support!

Tuesday night was devastating as we saw the government proceed to table the idea of cutting funding to the NDIS.

This is a challenging time to be an Australian with a disability, as the government and wider community continue to debate what our lives should look like, with very little input from those of us who these decisions will affect.

I do not oppose NDIS reform, however I and many others do oppose cuts to the funding and supports that thousands of Australians rely on to live their lives.

After Tuesday night many understandably feel defeated, however there is still hope to stop these cuts. The budget and legislation relating to changes to the NDIS still have to pass through the houses of Parliament, where they can be blocked and amended.

If you also oppose these changes and want to show your support for the disability community, please speak up. Contact your local MP regarding these changes, share posts from disability advocates and organisations and/or sign the petitions below.

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) petition: https://www.change.org/p/protect-the-ndis-don-t-cut-the-supports-people-need-to-live-ordinary-lives?utm_medium=custom_url&utm_source=share_petition&recruited_by_id=cda30bb0-3c9e-11f1-8c13-7135596608db

PWDA Parliamentary Petition: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN9864/sign

Greens Petition: https://greens.org.au/campaigns/no-ndis-cuts

Let's stop these changes until the disability community is properly consulted on changes that affect our lives.

This Saturday the 9th of May, there will be a National Day of Action. This event will bring together people with disability, families and supporters across Australia to stand up against the recently announced changes and cuts to NDIS funding.

There will be eight events being held around Australia that you can attend to show your support.

Sydney / Gadigal Country: Town Hall at 2pm

Melbourne / Naarm: State Library at 1pm

Brisbane / Magan-djin / Meanjin: King George Square at 3:15pm

Perth/Boorloo: Northbridge Piazza at 1pm

Canberra/Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country: Parliament House Lawns at 2pm

Hobart/Nipaluna: Franklin Square at 2pm

Toowoomba/Giabal and Jarowair Country: Quest Living - Drayton at 10am

Alice Springs/Mparntwe: Snow Kenna Park at 10:30am

I will be attending the protest at the State Library in Melbourne on this day to show my support and would love to see you there.

If you are unable to attend in person, however, would like to show your support, feel free to share this post to help raise awareness as the more people who attend, the better.

Autistic Australians and Australians with disabilities deserve the same right to access the community and live independently, as any other Australian. These proposed cuts will harm thousands of people with disabilities and will mean many will lose access to the supports that enable them to access the community, live independently and/or work.

We need to stop these cuts until the disability community is consulted on changes that affect our lives.

I am pleased to learn that Sydney Airport has opened their first quiet room located in Terminal 1.

As someone who travels frequently for work, I am aware of how overwhelming airports can be. I have often found myself trying to find a space where I can shut out the high sensory input of an airport to ensure I can reach my destination without experiencing sensory overload, or a meltdown or shutdown.

Spaces like this are extremely important as they provide a safe space for people to take a break from the overwhelming airport experience, something a gate lounge can not provide.

To access Sydney Airport's quiet room you can prebook online or scan the QR code beside the door to receive an access code.

I look forward to the opportunity to utilise the other quiet rooms at Sydney Airport when they open.

[Statement on Mark Butler's National Press Club Announcement regarding NDIS reform]

On Wednesday the Minister for Health, Ageing, Disability and the NDIS, Mark Butler, announced more changes to the NDIS that will have a significant impact on many NDIS participants.

I, along with many others in the disability community, agree that the NDIS does need to change so that it can continue to meet the needs of those who need it, however this announcement emphasises how little those in charge of the NDIS understand the complexities of disability.

I would like to highlight one of the more concerning changes, which will be to the eligibility. From 2028 eligibility to access the NDIS will be based on functional capacity and not based on diagnosis. This, as Mark Butler states, is to transition those with lower support needs from the NDIS to state-funded supports. Supports that don't currently exist.

I would like to take this opportunity to plead with the government to please actively consult experts in disability, such as the disability community, before going any further. These changes, if they proceed, will lead to many people being left without any support, as currently, there is nothing else out there.

At this time, it is not fully clear how these changes will affect the autism community, and unfortunately, I am unable to offer any reassurance other than to let you know you are not alone. The disability community will continue to fight for the right to access the community and to live a meaningful and independent life.

If you missed the announcement and are interested in learning more about the changes, I would recommend watching the full coverage yourself and not relying on the media, as I have found many media organisations are changing the narrative. you can watch the full announcement on ABC Iview: https://iview.abc.net.au/video/NC2611C013S00

People With Disability Australia have also started a petition to stop these cuts, you can sign by heading to: https://pwd.org.au/disability-rights/stopndiscuts/

Let's stand together against the continued deterioration of the NDIS.

I am excited to see everyone in Ballarat next month as our Understanding Autism Workshops return to the Ballarat Library on the 20th of May!

As someone who grew up in regional Victoria, I understand firsthand how important it is to have events like this being hosted close to home. This is why I have made the commitment to continue to offer our workshops to regional communities.

Our Understanding Autism Workshops are one of a kind as each session is uniquely tailored to what each participant would like to gain from attending, whether it be to better understand the basics of autism from someone with lived experience, learn how to accommodate our access needs or even just to ask questions in a safe environment.

I will be there to assist you wherever you are on your accessibility journey.

To learn more about our Ballarat workshops and to register, head to: https://www.brycepaceautismadvocate.com/understanding-autism-ballarat

See you there!

Today marks a significant milestone as I celebrate a decade of assisting to create a world that embraces human diversity.

Looking back at the last 10 years it is amazing to see how far I have come. A decade ago I was a heavily closeted neuro-queer teen who was masking their autism and trying desperately to fit in with their neurotypical peers.

This all changed on the 10th of April 2016 when I decided I’d had enough of how my peers perceived autism and wrote a Facebook post that would become my first coming out. I was so anxious when that post went public as my secret was out and I feared those at my high school would never see me the same way again.

Believe it or not this was going to be the end of my brief advocacy career. If it wasn’t for a comment on the post I received from a young autistic at my school with a similar experience, I may not have found my passion for advocacy and access consultancy.

I have a lot to thank that autistic who I got to know more through shared interests during the remainder of my time at school, however they aren’t the only one who has supported me on this journey.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years. Whether you follow my journey on social media, worked alongside me, attended one of my workshops or heard me speak at a conference. Thank you for being here as I truly couldn’t have reached this milestone without your support.

If you are interested in reading the Facebook post that launched Bryce Pace – Autism Advocate you can find it by heading to: https://www.brycepaceautismadvocate.com/the-first-post

I look forward to continuing my work as an access consultant and seeing what the next 10 years hold.

Thank you

Today is World Autism Acceptance Day. A day dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of autistics and to advocate for a more inclusive, accessible and accepting world.

With the increasing resurgence of misinformation around autism, recognising days like today is more important than ever.

Today I would like to encourage everyone to pause and listen to autistic voices, learn from their lived experience and the experience of those around them. You can do this in many ways including attending an autistic led event or supporting an autistic run business like some of the ones listed on our resources webpage.

We can’t create an accessible world without first gaining genuine understanding and respect for the wonderfully diverse communities that live in it.

Let’s use World Autism Acceptance Day as an opportunity to educate ourselves and others, support each other, and move towards a future that celebrates Human Diversity.

Happy World Autism Acceptance Day!

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Today we celebrate the achievements, joy, and resilience of transgender and gender diverse people around the world.

It is currently believed that autistics are up to 7 times more likely to identify as being transgender or gender diverse, which makes today that much more important to acknowledge.

Today I stand with our transgender and gender diverse friends and allies to advocate for a world where everyone can just be. A world where human diversity is not just accepted but celebrated.

Currently, the transgender and gender diverse community is experiencing a really challenging time as people debate the community's right to exist.

I see you, respect you and stand with you in the fight for access to basic human rights.
