Gaps in our mental health system
I dont want this to be a glass half empty post. I do want to highlight what we all know, the systemic gaps in our mental health system & how often we try and cover that in private practice.
There are alot of good people working in systems where people fall through the cracks. Attempts have been made to fill these, but they often result in services focusing on quantity of clients seen, not quality care.
This comes up very frequently in supervision. A client referred into a service that is not suitable, and then significant brainstorming trying to find an alternative option for the client.
Programs being rolled out under different names, with different providers, doing the same thing as many years before.
I am not sure what the answer is. I know everyone I supervise with cases like this just want to make sure clients get the support they need.
But if you are feeling this way about the system, you are not alone. Reach out & discuss with colleagues and in supervision. Because often, ee as clinicans bear the brunt of this alongside the clients. And that can be a heavy weight to carry without support.
