Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 98 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting someone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

Drawing on their own lived experiences, Levi and Boadicea work alongside our mental health clinicians to provide additional support to young people, helping them feel heard, understood and reassured that they are not alone in their journey.

This year’s headspace Day theme, do nothing*, is a powerful reminder that looking after your own mental health and wellbeing can start by slowing down, taking a break and having a conversation with some who gets it.

From red dirt airstrips to remote tropical islands, wherever care is needed, we’ll be there. ✈️🌴

This retrieval took our crew to a remote island in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria, with a pilot, flight nurse, and medical officer on board, ready to provide critical care to a patient in need.

Year after year, the community comes together to raise vital funds that help ensure we can continue delivering essential healthcare to regional, rural and remote Queensland. This year, more than $127,000 was raised in support of the Flying Doctor. 🙌

115km run – all in the name of the Service that saved his son’s life.🏃💙

Over the weekend, Flynn Noon ran from Mitchell all the way to our RFDS Roma Base as part of the RFDS Oceans to Outback challenge to raise vital funds for the Flying Doctor who retrieved his son last year following a terrible accident. Read more 👉 https://rfds.co/4j5HIwD

As Flynn approached the finish line, he was greeted by the RFDS Pilot and Flight Nurse who were there for his family that day and by a large crowd of community supporters. It was a special moment that brought together the people behind the care and the community that helps make it possible.

A huge thank you to Flynn for his extraordinary effort and to all our Oceans to Outback participants who are helping ensure distance is never a barrier to life-saving care.

Kicking off Queensland Mental Health Week the right way, with community, connection and wellbeing support. 🚶🤝

This weekend, more than 100 people are taking part in the 12th annual Conquer The Corrugations walk in Cape York Peninsula, covering 46 kilometres over two days.

We have been a proud supporter of the event since it began. Clinicians from our Far North Mental Health and Wellbeing Service wear their brightest colours, walking and talking with everyone along the way and offering a safe space for sharing and powerful healing conversations.

Every step is an opportunity to remember loved ones lost, connect with others who understand, catch up with old friends or make new connections.

Above all, it’s a reminder that no one has to walk alone, and that we are stronger when we ‘walk as one’. 💙

A first for our Aeromedical Training Academy! ✈️👏

This month, the Academy welcomed two new pilots from Queensland Government Air to undertake their B360 Type Rating training in our King Air full-flight simulator, with our own certified flight instructors delivering the training for the first time to an external client.

It’s an exciting milestone for the Academy and a great recognition of the expertise within our team.

We value our ongoing relationship with QGAir and are proud to play a role in developing and strengthening Australia’s pilot workforce.
