A BMD scan is a simple, non-invasive test used to measure bone density and help identify reduced bone strength, including osteopenia and osteoporosis.

But in many cases, it’s simply the best way to give your doctor the detailed information they need to understand what’s going on. Different scans have different strengths, and an MRI is particularly useful for looking at soft tissues without using ionising radiation.
