Herbs are not just “natural alternatives”, they each have a ‘personality’

Some are warming and moving.
Some are cooling and nourishing.
Some are grounding.
Some are clearing.
Some work gently on digestion, while others influence stress, inflammation, metabolism, mood, skin, hormones or the nervous system.

That is why herbal medicine is not as simple as “Take this herb for this symptom.”

In naturopathy, we ask deeper questions:

- What is the pattern underneath the symptom?
- Is the body depleted, inflamed, tense, dry, stagnant, overwhelmed or undernourished?
- What does the person’s digestion, stress response, sleep, cycle, pathology, constitution and medication history tell us?

Ayurvedic herbs like Tulsi, Saffron, Ashwagandha, Gotu Kola, Shatavari, Cinnamon, Fennel, Licorice and Turmeric are beautiful examples of how traditional wisdom and modern research can meet.

Each herb has its own traditional character, emerging research focus and naturopathic pattern it may suit.

Because the goal is not just to suppress a symptom.
The goal is to understand the person.

Oh I just needed some nervous system regulation:

- Play time (quite literally), bringing out that childlike excitement for life
- Home Pilates + Dance workouts!
- Teenage levels of K-pop fangirling (and bringing my brother onboard)
- Vibing to songs, expressing and actually listening it to the end
- NAC + Acetyl L-Carnitine + Magnesium Supplements
- Regularly sunlight to regulate circadian rhythms
- Cooking whole foods in new “appetising” ways
- Iron everyday and everywhere we go!
- Breathing deeply and mindfully
- Pausing and processing someone’s words and holding space
- Holding space for one’s “shadow” self and thoughts and then transmuting them for ongoing evolution
- Taking notes for new subjects more slowly allowing concepts to unravel and integrate into memory naturally
- Doing less “to-do” things in a day
- Taking those power naps when needed
- Not multitasking

A little client progress reflection 🌻

One of the biggest things clinic keeps teaching me is that good outcomes usually do not come from one single product or one perfect prescription.

They come from the combination of:
• good clinical reasoning
• a realistic treatment plan
• regular follow-ups
• client compliance and readiness to make change

This case was a lovely reminder of how much can shift in about 6 weeks when the plan is appropriate and the client is genuinely engaged in the process.

The prescription changed as the case changed.
Because that is what follow-ups are for.

You reassess, refine, and support the next stage of healing.

Healing is rarely passive. It is collaborative. ✨
