There can be so much pressure to stay “committed” to the original plan.

But realistically, birth was never meant to be about avoiding intervention at all costs or proving how much you can endure.

At its core, birth is about supporting the conditions that help a woman feel safe, informed, connected to her body, and able to respond to what is unfolding in real time.
Sometimes that path continues toward a vaginal birth.

And sometimes a woman reassesses and decides another path feels more aligned for her circumstances.

Changing the plan is not the same as failing.
Empowered birth does not only look one way.

This one might ruffle feathers… but choosing a care provider based purely on personality can lead to a cascade of interventions when birth unfolds very differently to what you might have imagined or may have been told.

A kind provider is important.
Feeling safe matters.
Connection matters.

But if you’re hoping for a physiological birth in a private hospital, you also need to ask deeper questions about philosophy, intervention thresholds, evidence-based care and how your provider supports the birth you desire.

“Supportive” and “supports physiological birth” are not always the same thing.

If you find yourself reading this and it’s hitting home, I want to encourage you that it is never too late to change care providers.

Fear sells really well in the birth world.

But I refuse to build my business by making women feel afraid.

Afraid of birth.
Afraid of intervention.
Afraid of “doing it wrong.”
Afraid they’ll fail without hiring support.

You deserve full information, evidence-based support, and space to make the decisions that feel right for YOU.

Not pressure.
Not guilt.
Not manipulation disguised as empowerment.

If you hire me as your doula, I want it to be because you feel supported and aligned; not because someone convinced you to fear your own birth. 🤍

On becoming a doula… all started with my unexpected, totally unplanned, 4th baby. Never in a million years would I have ever pictured myself working in the birth world. But when I received unconditional support, really good solid education without fear mongering, someone holding space for me and my story, I just could fully listen to my intuition and think about what I want to do and how I’m going to do it. The birth that followed was by far the most epic experience of my life. But it all came together because of the support I sought out after being absolutely failed by the hospital system. A few years later I realised I can give this support to other women and families by becoming a doula. Now, almost 3 years on the dot and nearly 60 births later. What a wild ride it has been ❤️

Women are often conditioned to expect disrespect in birth care like it’s just part of the experience.

I don’t believe that should be normal.

Labour does not erase your right to informed consent, privacy, dignity, or compassionate care.

The way women are treated during birth matters deeply.

And having the right support around you can change everything.

Doula support isn’t just birth support.

Sometimes it looks like not panic-buying sour cream at IGA at 7pm with a newborn screaming in the capsule seat. 🫠

One of my favourite parts of supporting families postpartum is making sure there’s actual nourishment in the house. Because you know those midnight hunger pains of a breastfeeding mum ?!

Meals ready.
One less mental load.
One less thing to carry while recovering and getting to know your baby.

It’s about time I came clean about my beliefs around c/sections.

A c/section can be absolutely the best choice of birth for you. And even if you planned a natural birth -
You can change your mind. You can ask for a c-section any time.

Recently I supported a client through a long labour. There came a point, where ‘she had left the room’. Her nervous system was shot. She checked out. She disassociated.

I sat in the corner just quietly observing and thought about the journeys birth can take. While a vaginal birth was her ideal, it had now the potential of becoming highly distressing and traumatic. I wondered how that would impact her postpartum, her mental health and overall well-being. And then I just thought - what if she would choose now a c/section ?
I hesitated at first but then I asked: are you still wanting a vaginal birth ? Or would you like to consider other options ?

And then. The atmosphere shifted. The room lit up and the joy came back. She came back.
She gave a full yes to a belly birth after considering all the risks and excitedly chose a play list for theatre and her partner and her enjoyed this beautiful time together, full of anticipation and excitement.

Sometimes the most supportive thing we can offer women is not convincing them to keep going… but reminding them they still have autonomy.

My philosophy around birth has never been about one “right” way to give birth. It’s about helping women feel informed, supported, and deeply safe in their choices

A healthy baby matters deeply.
But so does the mother.
Over the last 3 years supporting births at home and in the hospital, I’ve witnessed how deeply women remember the way they were treated during birth.

Because birth is more than a medical event.
It’s a life-changing transition into motherhood, and women deserve care that protects both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
This is a huge part of why I do the work I do as a doula.
To help women feel supported, educated, and empowered in their choices.
To create space for questions, informed decision making, emotional support, advocacy, and care that helps you feel seen and heard throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

It is not just about a “healthy baby is all that matters”, it is also about you.
