Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers, but it is also one of the most preventable and treatable when detected early.

Knowing the warning signs can make a real difference. Symptoms may include:
✔️ Blood in the stool
✔️ Persistent changes in bowel habits
✔️ Unexplained weight loss
✔️ Ongoing abdominal pain or discomfort

Regular screening can detect bowel cancer before symptoms even appear, helping save lives through early intervention.

This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, take a moment to learn the signs, discuss screening with your doctor if appropriate, and encourage your loved ones to do the same.

💙 Early detection saves lives.

🦠 Antibiotics may affect your gut health for YEARS — not just days.

A new large study highlighted by the World Gastroenterology Organisation found that even a single course of certain antibiotics may alter the gut microbiome for up to 8 years. Some antibiotics were linked to reduced bacterial diversity and an increase in bacteria associated with obesity, diabetes, and inflammation. (WGO)

Antibiotics are often life-saving and absolutely necessary in many situations — but this research reminds us why they should be used carefully and only when truly needed.

Your gut microbiome plays an important role in:
✔️ Digestion
✔️ Immunity
✔️ Metabolism
✔️ Overall health

Simple ways to support gut health after antibiotics may include:
🥗 A high-fibre diet
🍎 Diverse plant-based foods
🥛 Fermented foods (when appropriate)
💧 Good hydration
🏃 Regular physical activity

Always speak with your doctor before starting probiotics or supplements.

At My Gut Care, we continue to follow emerging microbiome research closely as we learn more about the connection between gut bacteria and long-term health.

“Go with your gut” – IBS treatments that actually work

I recently came across a Q&A discussion around Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) that raised some very practical points many patients ask in clinic every day.

👉 Common question:
“What actually works for IBS? There’s so much conflicting advice online.”

👉 Answer (simplified):
IBS is not a “one-size-fits-all” condition. What works depends on the underlying driver — whether it’s gut sensitivity, microbiome imbalance, diet, stress, or a combination of these.

Effective approaches may include:
✔️ Dietary strategies (e.g. low FODMAP under guidance)
✔️ Gut-directed therapies
✔️ Medications tailored to symptoms
✔️ Addressing the gut-brain axis
✔️ In selected cases, microbiome-based therapies

⚠️ A very important point to highlight:

You may come across discussions about “home-made” or DIY treatments (including microbiome-related therapies such as f***l microbiota approaches using home methods).

🚫 We strongly do NOT recommend any form of home-based or unsupervised treatments.

While f***l microbiota transplantation (FMT) has shown emerging evidence in IBS, it is:
✔️ Still evolving
✔️ Not suitable for everyone
✔️ Requires strict screening, processing, and medical oversight

This is not something that should ever be attempted at home.

👨‍⚕️ At My Gut Care, we take a personalised, evidence-based approach to IBS.

If you’re struggling with ongoing symptoms or feel like nothing is working, it’s worth getting a proper assessment — there are often more options than you think.

📞 Feel free to make an appointment with your gastroenterologist to explore safe and effective treatment options tailored to you.
