When the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is activated, it slows our heart and breathing rates, lowers blood pressure, and promotes digestion. Our body enters a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery.

For so many of us, living in a constant state of fight-or-flight (trauma response), that quiet space is foreign.

I've been teaching yoga, meditation, and pranayama practices for quite a few years. From my experience, what takes months to achieve on land can sometimes happen instantly in the warm magic of water.

Angels build bridges between souls. Thank you, Sivan Benesh.

He doesn't yet know how to swim. He never had the privilege to learn that skill. This is one of the many privileges we take for granted on this side of the world.

He's drawn to the ocean but feels unsafe in deep water.
He wants to feel comfortable, to own that space, and perhaps through that to feel at peace with himself. At peace with the battles that he had to win silently.

We practiced breathing, body awareness, and swimming techniques. I was inspired by his determination WOW! captivated by his charm and so deeply touched by those moments at the end of the session when he let himself gently surrender into my arms.
