❓Did you know Colore**al Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related death in Australia?

💙 This March, we are taking a stand to change that. Cases have more than doubled since the early 80s, and at QLD Pelvic Floor Centre, we are passionate about raising awareness to save lives.

🔍 Here are a few facts about Colore**al Cancer everyone should know:

🎲 It’s common: The average Australian has a 1 in 13 risk of being diagnosed.

⚠️ It’s not just an "older person's" disease: While 93% of cases occur in people over 50, rates in 20 to 39 year olds are rising fast. In fact, if you were born in the 1990s, you have double the risk of colon cancer and four times the risk of re**al cancer compared to someone born in the 1950s.

🤫 It’s silent: Many patients diagnosed often experience absolutely no symptoms.

💙 So what can you do?

Did you know that almost ALL colore**al cancers start as small, precancerous growths called polyps? 😳 The sneaky part is that these polyps can hide in the colon or re**um for years before turning into cancer, often without causing a single symptom.

☀️ But there is great news:
Screening is your superpower! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

Routine screening can spot these polyps so they can be removed before they ever become dangerous - literally stopping cancer in its tracks. And if cancer has already developed, finding it early means treatment is much more effective.
Want to take extra steps to protect your gut health? Research shows you can actively reduce your risk by making a few everyday lifestyle tweaks:
🏃‍♀️ Get moving: Increase your daily physical activity.
⚖️ Find balance: Work on maintaining a healthy weight.
🥗 Eat the rainbow: Fill your plate with fruits, veggies, and whole grains, and limit animal fats.
🍷 Drink mindfully: Limit your alcohol consumption.
🚭 Breathe easy: Avoid to***co.

Don't wait for symptoms to appear. Talk to your doctor about when you should start your colore**al cancer screenings. Proactive health is the best kind of health! 💙

🇦🇺 The National Bowel Cancer Screening program aims to reduce deaths from bowel cancer by detecting early signs of the disease. If found early, more than 90% of cases can be successfully treated. Eligible Australians aged 45 to 74 can do a free test at home every 2 years. Learn about the program and how to do the test: https://ncsr.gov.au/request-a-free-bowel-test-kit
