Applying for SDA is not just paperwork, it is a family conversation too, and it tends to go so much more smoothly when that conversation happens early.

Before diving into logistics, it helps to talk honestly about what independence actually looks like for the person moving, what supports will stay the same versus change, and who is making which decisions along the way.

These conversations do not need to be perfect. They just need to be honest, and had with enough time to really listen to each other.
