Thank goodness I’m not a banana!

Although yesterday, I was dressed in them 🍌😂

Apparently, the wrong shape, size & blemishes can get you pulled off the shelf

Cancer left me scarred, flat-chested & a different shape than I started

Still Ange
Still worth the same

All dressed up. Wrong side of Australia.
And the bananas won’t stay on my head. 🍌😂

Day 11 👗

Today’s outfit is for my beautiful cousin Dani Tamati & the ladies gathering in WA for “Brunch for Ange”.

Tropical print, beads, bangles - I’ve dressed for the occasion from Brisbane. The bananas failed the all-day wear test.

Dani is holding today in memory of my Aunty Lou, her mother-in-law, who passed from ovarian cancer, & in support of me & my family.

I wish I was pulling up a chair!

Cancer happened to my body, but it changed everyday life for my little tribe too. The kids, Nana & I appreciate having you all in our corner!

To the ladies gathering today, & everyone who couldn’t attend but donated anyway - thank you for remembering Aunty Lou, backing us & helping fund ovarian cancer research.

OVARIAN CANCER YOU CAN GET FROCKED!!

Dani, this one’s for you & your ladies!
Save me some cake x👗 💚

Day 9 👗

I went to the op shop dressed like this.
Then tried on clothes like I don’t already have enough washing.

There was a gold number that screamed C-3PO.
I left it behind. I’m still thinking about it.
What occasion I thought I needed it for, goodness only knows 😂

Meanwhile, the wardrobe supervisor appears exhausted by the whole operation.

Earlier today I shared what ovarian cancer left on my body.
Tonight, it’s beads, bare shoulders & getting on with life in that same body.

That’s rebuilding too.

9 days into wearing frocks for ovarian cancer research. Still finding reasons to laugh.

Im curious what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve nearly brought home from an op shop? 💚

That ruler and I have one thing in common.

30 centimetres

On the ruler, it’s a measurement
On me, it’s a scar

It runs down my abdomen from surgery for Stage 4B ovarian cancer

On 16 March 2022, they removed my uterus, both ovaries, fallopian tubes, and my omentum as part of that surgery

“Radical hysterectomy” sounds fairly tidy on a medical record

Living in the body afterwards has been considerably less tidy

Now you see me in a different dress every day. Walking Mac. Doing the school run. Turning up at Woolies in something questionable

That scar comes everywhere with me

Every ridiculous frock is being worn by a woman who knows exactly why ovarian cancer research matters

I can measure my scar
I can’t measure everything cancer changed

That’s the bit underneath the dress. 💚

The next woman diagnosed is already someone’s daughter

Someone’s mum. Sister. Aunty. Best friend

I was that woman
Stage 4B ovarian cancer. Breast cancer too

So yes, I’m wearing a different dress every day this October. Some ridiculous. Some fabulous.
But underneath every frock is a woman who wants better for the women coming after her.

Including my own daughters

Day 7 of Frocktober 🐆

7 days & 7 dresses down. 24 to go.

Found this one at Vinnies. Might look everyday to some. Not to this shorts, jeans and plain tee girl.

The ladies at school pickup yesterday asked for a big puffy ball gown. These puff sleeves are as close as you're getting this week... maybe. Keep the faith, ladies.

Leopard print is loud. Ovarian cancer whispers. If bloating or tummy pain hangs around for weeks, get it checked.

Got a dress in your wardrobe? Wear it any day this week, snap a pic & tag . I'll share every 1!

Every dollar goes to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Day 6 👗

The dress matches my level of disgust at having to make school lunches again. 😂

2 weeks of holidays over. Back to school we go.

First, school drop-off
Then, dog park
Then, rain

Mac is normally jumping into his harness for a walk. Today? Strangely hesitant

Apparently even the dog has opinions about my Frocktober vomit dress 🫣

Added the cap & runners for dog-walking duties. Same frock, slightly more practical ensemble.

Then it was back for school pick-up and judging by the facial expression it was a fabulous day - see last photo. 😂

This is what today’s Frocktober looks like - a loud dress, school runs & a dog possibly requesting a different owner.

After everything ovarian cancer has put my body through, there’s something lovely about getting on with an ordinary day. Even if it involves lunchboxes.

6 days. 6 frocks. 25 to go. 💚

Who was less impressed today - the kids, Mac, or me making school lunches?

Day 5 👗

Yesterday’s frock choice seems to have unlocked today’s

I would never normally own a strapless, bright-blue loud dress like this.

But given the circumstances I’m quietly thankful for Frocktober & I can wear it comfortably.
Not thankful for cancer. Never that

Just thankful for a small unexpected freedom in a body that has been through plenty. 💚

Some of the hardest things people said to me were meant kindly.

“Stay positive.”
“You’ve got this.”
“At least you’re alive.”
“Your hair will grow back.”
“You look amazing.”
“My aunt had that…”

Most people weren’t trying to hurt me

They were trying to help.

But cancer taught me that good intentions & good impact are not always the same thing.

Sometimes I didn’t need encouragement
Sometimes I didn’t need a silver lining
Sometimes I didn’t need to hear about someone else’s cancer story
Sometimes I didn't need to have you tried this..

Sometimes I just needed:

“That sounds really hard.”

And someone willing to sit in the uncomfortable bit with me

What’s something someone said to you during cancer that they meant kindly, but landed completely wrong?
