Every afternoon, Mary sat by the window in the aged care home, watching people come and go.
The world outside kept moving, but inside, her days felt quiet… and a little lonely.
One morning, a staff member walked in with someone special.
He had soft golden fur, kind eyes, and a blue vest that said, “Therapy Dog.”
Mary looked up slowly.
For the first time that day, she smiled.
The dog walked gently toward her and rested his head on her lap.
Mary’s hands trembled slightly as she touched his fur.
“Oh,” she whispered, “aren’t you a beautiful boy?”
And just like that, the room felt warmer.
They didn’t need much talking.
He listened with his eyes.
She spoke with her heart.
For a little while, Mary didn’t feel forgotten.
She felt seen.
Soon, Mary began looking forward to his visits.
They sat in the garden, felt the sunshine, and watched the flowers move in the breeze.
The dog stayed close, as if he knew exactly where he was needed.
Mary was still living in the same room, sitting by the same window.
But something had changed.
She was no longer waiting alone.
Because sometimes, friendship arrives on four paws.
And sometimes, the best medicine… is companionship.
