Jaw clenching (aka bruxism) is the most common cause of tension around your jaw (TMJ). When you clench a lot, your muscles become more tense and overactive, this in turn causes more compression through the joints. This may lead to TMJ dysfunction such as pain, clicking, locking, troubles chewing food etc

As part of our TMJ assessment, we can identify if bruxism is an issue for you and work on strategies to reduce this over time.

Dizziness and vertigo are common things we see in the clinic. It is a relatively common symptom, even in the younger population. There are many potential causes such as neck dysfunction, inner ear dysfunction, or other health issues such as blood pressure/infections etc.

If you are experiencing persistent dizziness or vertigo symptoms, physiotherapy may help. At the HNJ Clinic we have physiotherapists who have completed extra training in treating vestibular conditions.

Many people associate a migraine with having an aura for diagnosis. In fact, it is actually more common to have migraine without aura compared to migraine with aura - just because you don't experience an aura, does not mean you don't get migraines.

Physiotherapy for migraines can be very effective. At HNJ all of our physiotherapists are trained in the Watson Headache Approach, a specific treatment approach for assessing and treating headaches and migraines.

For more information on migraine treatment, see our website. Or book online an initial physiotherapy consultation at your nearest clinic location; https://hnjclinic.com.au/migraines/

As parents, it can be worrying when your child frequently complains of headaches, migraines, or unexplained stomach pain. While many people think headaches are an adult problem, they are surprisingly common in children and teenagers. The good news is that physiotherapy can play an important role in identifying contributing factors and helping children find lasting relief.

Most people never think about their tongue until it starts contributing to pain.

Jaw tightness, neck tension, headaches, throat discomfort, clicking, swallowing issues, and even poor sleep are often treated separately. But in many cases, they may all be connected by one overlooked structure: the tongue.

More specifically, the tongue root.

When the disc is slightly forward causing clicking - this is called "Anterior Disc Displacement WITH reduction

Congratulations to our physiotherapist Rochelle Kay who recently went down to Adelaide to complete her Watson Headache® Clinic Level 4 Clinical Facilitator program. Trina (Level 4) and Rochelle had fantastic weekend facilitating the teaching and learning with the Level 3 course with Dean Watson. This course had physiotherapists coming from all over including Chile and New Zealand.

Both of our Level 4 physiotherapists Trina and Rochelle have a strong passion for treating headache and migraine patients. At HNJ we are lucky to have them in our clinics and mentoring our physiotherapy team
