A question from your continence practice could be the start of a research project. 🔎

Continence Health Australia has opened applications for its Research Grant (CHARG), with up to three grants of $25,000 each available.

The funding supports small studies, pilot projects and early-stage research that could improve continence knowledge and care, with a focus on supporting emerging and early-career researchers across Australia.

What support is available when a child with disability needs extra help with toileting? 💛

Continence Health Australia’s online session, Supporting children with disability, will explore practical strategies and guidance to support individual toileting goals.

Parents, carers and professionals can hear from continence specialists about the support available and how children’s different needs can influence toilet learning.

Support and strategies to help children with disability build their toilet skills and independence

Same routine. Different words. What does your prompt ask the child to work out? 💬

For example:
“Please brush your teeth” gives a clear instruction.

“My toothbrush is out and ready to go” shares an observation, leaving the next step for the child to work out.

An indirect prompt is one option to try when direct instructions aren’t working. Some children need more explicit language, so consider the child’s understanding and the situation when choosing your approach.
