GLP-1 patches are all over social media right now, and I understand the appeal. Needle-free, easy to use, and riding the wave of genuine excitement around GLP-1 medications.
But as a naturopath, I think it's important to be straight with you.
Most patches don't contain GLP-1 agonists at all. Instead they typically include herbs, amino acids, or homoeopathic-style ingredients, with no independent research to back the claims. There is currently no patch-based GLP-1 product listed on any approved medicine register in Australia.
The marketing is borrowing the credibility of prescription medications. The science simply isn't there.
I've put together a five-part breakdown explaining what GLP-1 actually does, why patches can't replicate it, and what evidence-based metabolic support actually looks like, including how to protect your muscle mass and nutritional status if you're already using GLP-1 medication.
