EMMETT Technique International

EMMETT Technique International The EMMETT Technique is a gentle, soft touch, safe and simple to apply muscle release therapy.

This internationally recognised technique developed by Ross Emmett and taught in over 40 countries worldwide is equally effective on both people and animals. The EMMETT Technique is a unique muscle release therapy developed by Australian massage and remedial therapist, Ross Emmett. The Technique involves applying light finger pressure to specific points on the body, known as "EMMETT points." These

points differ from traditional trigger or acupressure points and are stimulated using gentle pressure, allowing for effective muscle release and improved movement without the need for pain. Focused on achieving physical and emotional wellbeing through minimal touch, the method is based on the principle that light touch triggers a subconscious response in the soft tissues of the body. Symptoms that have been relieved:
🔹Neck & shoulder restriction/discomfort
🔹Lymphatic congestion & breathing
🔹Migraines or headaches
🔹Abdominal cramps & bowel discomfort
🔹Heel and foot pain
🔹Dizziness & sinus congestion
🔹Back & hip discomfort
🔹Knee & ankle restriction
🔹Discomfort during pregnancy
🔹Fluid retention
🔹And much more!

The best tool in your clinical toolkit is the one that makes every other modality work better 🦎

The EMMETT Technique is known as the chameleon of bodywork because it adapts seamlessly into any existing treatment style. It helps overcome muscle guarding without adding physical strain to your own hands and joints.

Why therapists integrate these precise points:
🔵 Immediate assessment - quickly clear soft tissue restrictions before main adjustments or massage strokes.
🟡 Preserve your body - achieve deep structural releases without aggressive pressure.
🔵 Enhanced client outcomes - prepare the nervous system for longer-lasting results.

When it comes to building stronger, healthier dogs, recovery is just as important as training 🐕

Whether working with high-performance detection dogs, sporting dogs, or active family companions, muscle tension can quietly restrict fluid movement and slow down recovery times.

The EMMETT Technique offers a gentle, non-invasive muscle release approach that works with the canine nervous system:
🔵 Faster recovery - eases post-activity muscle tightness to keep working and sporting dogs moving comfortably.
🟡 Enhanced performance - supports full range of motion, stride length, and overall agility.
🔵 Gentle care - applies a light touch that dogs accept easily without triggering distress or guarding reflexes.
A smart, compassionate way to care for the four-legged members of your team.

Slouching at a desk all day isn't just a habit - it's often a sign your muscles are holding protective tension 💻

When sitting for long periods, the chest and hips tighten while the upper back muscles overwork to keep you upright. Trying to force your shoulders back with tension won't fix it if the nervous system feels compromised.

The EMMETT Technique provides a quick, gentle reset:
🔵 Chest and shoulder opening - releases tight pectoral muscles so shoulders drop naturally.
🟡 Postural balance - restores comfortable alignment without forcing posture.
🔵 Immediate freedom - brings ease back to neck rotation and shoulder movement in seconds.

A gentle way to undo the workday strain and get moving comfortably again.

Today, the spotlight is on Jo Martin, an EMMETT Tutor for 18 months operating JEM - Muscle Release Therapy on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Jo applies the chameleon approach across both human and equine streams to support total mobility and freedom of movement 🐴

Jo’s journey with horses started in her youth at Pony Club, leading to years of instructing across various sports before returning to Pony Club with her daughter in 2004. Over six years ago, Jo expanded her passion by becoming an Equine Assisted Learning Practitioner, assisting clients alongside horses to improve their daily living. Integrating EMMETT into these sessions has transformed how both horse and rider move together.

Now, as a dual-stream Practitioner and EMMETT 4 Horses Workshop Tutor, Jo travels across Victoria and beyond to introduce people to these gentle releases ✨

In her practice, Jo witnesses the power of real-time adjustments:
🔵 Mounted balance - delivering releases before and during mounted sessions so clients immediately feel freer and looser in their movement.
🟡 Dual feedback - watching the horse respond through deeper breathing and softer movement as the client’s physical restrictions clear.
🔵 Immediate relief - observing clear equine pain points react during assessment, then soften completely after gentle EMMETT application.
