Hi, I'm Elisse - a registered naturopath working from

Thyroid health comes up in almost every consult, especially with clients who are focused on fertility, postpartum, perimenopause and menopause.

Here's how I actually approach supporting my own thyroid health:

1. Eat enough.
Chronic under-eating and aggressive dieting can lower T3 and shift how your thyroid hormones are metabolised.

2. Take chronic stress seriously. Stress doesn't just "switch off" your thyroid, but prolonged physiological stress can interact with both the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis and your reproductive hormones.

3. Watch the exercise-fuelling balance. High training loads paired with low energy availability can suppress reproductive function and alter thyroid hormones.

4. Test before you treat. I want to see TSH and free T4 first, then consider TPOAb/TgAb testing where it's clinically appropriate.

Your thyroid doesn't need to be complicated. It needs consistency, enough fuel, and the right testing before jumping to conclusions.

We'll be diving deeper into strategies to proactively support your thyroid at our upcoming thyroid workshop on Saturday.

Tickets are available for $10. Use the link in our bio to purchase them or pick them up in store.

For a personalised approach to your thyroid and overall hormone health, I invite you to book a consult with me either online or in-person. Bookings available on www.tmporganics.com.au

It's called spin chilling, and it's standard industry practice, even among some organic suppliers. The Australian Chicken Meat Federation confirms the majority of chickens processed in Australia go through chlorinated water chillers as a way to cool the meat quickly and manage bacteria.

Our supplier does things differently.

Our chicken is rinsed, placed on racks to drain, then cooled using cold circulating air instead of a chlorinated bath. It's called air chilling, and it's a big part of why our chicken tastes the way real chicken should.

The difference shows up on your plate:

✓ Less retained processing water
✓ Naturally drier skin
✓ Crispier skin when you cook it
✓ True-to-life texture and appearance
✓ Better flavour, full stop

All food safety standards are still met but we just do it without the chlorine bath.

Ready to taste the difference? Purchase your certified organic Inglewood chicken from us at TMP Organics, Everton Park (North Brisbane).

North Brisbane naturopath Elisse Brown has an incredible way of working with women who are navigating hormonal health challenges.

Coming off the pill can create a resurgence of symptoms it was initially prescribed to suppress (skin issues, heavy bleeding or inconsistent cycles) and become quite overwhelming for many women.

From a holistic health perspective, we look at restoring a lot of the nutrients that the OCP depletes while supporting the nervous system, gut & detoxification pathways with herbs and lifestyle interventions.

If you feel like you need to carry around hoards of snacks to keep your kids happy and regulated, there might be something deeper going on with their blood sugar.

Here's some other signs:
- They wake up asking for food like it's an emergency
- The witching hour lasts beyond toddler years
- They're obsessed with quick energy foods like crackers, cereal, juice and sweet things
- They'll avoid eggs, meat, cheese and other more substantial foods
- They get cranky, aggitated, shaky or even a bit pale when they're hungry
- After school or daycare pick up can be an emotional rollercoaster
- Food fixes a meltdown suspciously fast
- Having something sweet can really affect their mood and behaviour (think hyperactivity, trouble listening and cooperating)

A lot of people consider insulin resistance and blood sugar dysregulation to be an "adult" problem but often these early markers start in childhood.

If this sounds familiar, you might be interested in our online workshop discussing Insulin Resistance, Metabolic Syndrome and Blood Sugar Dysregulation with Jo Spies & Elisse Brown.

Tickets are $10 and if you're unable to join us live on Teams, we'll send a recording after the fact.

ONE PAN CHICKEN + RICE
Easy, nutrious and budget friendly organic family recipe!

INGREDIENTS

For the chicken

5 skin-on, bone-in chicken thighs
2 tbsp olive oil

For the marinade

Juice + zest of 2 lemons (about ¼ cup juice)
2 tsp Dijon mustard
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil

For the rice

1 yellow onion, diced
2 cups baby spinach, roughly chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 cup long-grain white rice
2 cups chicken stock
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
Chopped parsley, to serve
Lemon zest or slices, to serve

METHOD

-Mix the marinade ingredients together. Add the chicken, coat well and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.

-Preheat oven to 175°C.

-Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large ovenproof pan over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, keeping the leftover marinade. Cook chicken skin-side down for 5 minutes, flip and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

-Remove some of the excess fat from the pan, leaving a little behind. Add the onion and cook for 1–2 minutes.

-Add spinach, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper and the reserved marinade. Cook for about 30 seconds, until the spinach begins to wilt.

-Stir in the rice, then add the chicken stock. Mix well and bring to a simmer.

-Place the chicken on top of the rice. Cover and bake for 35 minutes.

-Remove the lid and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the rice is tender.

-Rest for 5–10 minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork.

Serve with a side of steamed greens or a fresh salad.

Navigating menopause & perimenopause can be incredibly tricky, especially when there's so many conflicting opinions and suggestions out there.

Something that is often underrated is the role that gut health (especially the liver) plays in perimenopause and menopause... this is an area that naturopathy particularly excels in.

Instead of taking a medication or hormonal treatment designed to suppress your symptoms, we look at the underlying driver and support the body with healing to bring it back into natural balance.

For patients in their 30s and 40s, sometimes this meanst that the body starts producing hormones again naturally - without the addition of HRT.

There's also a lot we can do to support mood, nervous system and sleep using herbs, nutritional supplementation and lifestyle intervention to help you get back to feeling like yourself again.

Women's hormonal health is an area of speciality for our naturopath Elisse Brown who consults with patients all over Australia via video call or right here in our North Brisbane naturopath clinic.
