Meet Dr Judy Ku — Glaucoma & Anterior Segment Surgeon, Brisbane, Queensland.

Judy is a fellowship-trained glaucoma and anterior segment surgeon who provides medical and surgical care for patients with glaucoma, cataract and complex anterior segment disease. After completing her ophthalmology training, she pursued dual international fellowships — advanced glaucoma training at the Singapore National Eye Centre, followed by cornea, external eye disease and anterior segment surgery at the University of Toronto. Training in two world-renowned referral centres shaped the personalised, evidence-based approach she brings to her patients today.

Judy has a particular passion for advancing glaucoma surgery through research and innovation, with a focus on the evolution of interventional techniques like minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and minimally invasive bleb surgery (MIBS). She is a published author and book chapter contributor, a scientific reviewer for several glaucoma journals, and a contributor to advisory boards evaluating emerging surgical technologies — work recognised with awards from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).

Education runs through everything she does. As an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Queensland University of Technology, Judy teaches locally and is a regular invited speaker across the Asia-Pacific, sharing contemporary approaches to glaucoma surgery through workshops and scientific meetings.

Beyond the clinic, Judy is a dedicated wife and mother of two boys, guided by a belief in family, balance, and mentoring the next generation.

Thank you, Judy, for the sight you protect — and for the knowledge you so generously pass on to those who'll follow. 👏

Meet Dr Joshua Hann — Cataract, Corneal & Refractive Surgeon, Brisbane, Queensland.

Joshua completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney, after a science degree in Adelaide, and gained broad clinical experience across South East Queensland before completing his ophthalmology training and fellowship with RANZCO in 2013. He has since built a subspecialty focus on anterior segment and corneal disease, undertaking advanced training in corneal transplantation techniques in both the Netherlands and India.

Today Joshua is Director of Eastside Eye Care in Carindale, Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Princess Alexandra Hospital, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. His commitment to eye care reaches well beyond the city — he serves as Director of Ophthalmology at Rockhampton Base Hospital and provides outreach services to remote communities in Cape York.

He also gives his expertise to one of the most quietly vital corners of the field, serving as Deputy Medical Director of the Queensland Tissue Bank – Ocular, which supplies donor tissue for the transplants that restore sight for so many Australians.

Away from the clinic, Joshua is a devoted family man to his wife and three children, an avid runner, and a musician who plays both violin and piano.

Thank you, Joshua, for the sight you help restore — through your surgery, your teaching, and your service to patients across Queensland. 👏

It reminds us of the importance of listening, learning and embedding culturally capable practices that recognise the holistic nature of health, including connection to Country, family and community.
