Waking up to a wet mattress is a stressful start to the morning for both you and your little one. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’จ But did you know that getting it bone-dry is crucial for more than just stopping smells? Lingering moisture can lead to mold, which experts suggest can actually disrupt sleep patterns and worsen bedwetting cycle!

Swipe through for our foolproof, step-by-step guide to saving your mattress (especially memory foam!) and keeping your child's sleep environment healthy.

Did you know screen time can affect bedwetting? ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ค

When helping a child stay dry at night, we look at many different things. But a brand-new medical study shows that one major factor might be right in front of our eyes: screen time.

Researchers recently looked at children aged 6 to 12 who struggle with bedwetting. They wanted to see how using phones, tablets, and computers changed their sleep.

The results were eye-opening. Kids who spent too much time on screens had a much harder time falling asleep, staying asleep, and felt completely exhausted during the day. The risk was even higher for kids using the internet for more than 5 hours a day.

Why does this matter for bedwetting?

Deep, healthy sleep is super important for a child's brain and bladder control. When screens mess up their sleep schedule, it makes staying dry at night much harder.

If you are working on dry nights, cutting back on digital media and creating a relaxing, screen-free bedtime routine is a great place to start!

Think your child wets the bed just because theyโ€™re a "deep sleeper"?

Pediatric research actually shows something completely different. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ค

Itโ€™s one of the biggest myths in parenting: "My child just sleeps too deeply to wake up and go to the bathroom." But sleep studies actually show that children who wet the bed have normal sleep cycles!

The real medical challenge isn't how deeply they sleep, but how their brain communicates with their bladder while resting. For many kiddos, the brain simply misses the "full bladder" signal, leading to fragmented, poor-quality sleep and nighttime accidents.

The good news? Focusing on better sleep routines and building that brain-bladder connection can make a massive difference.

SCHOOL TOILETS MATTER MORE THAN MANY PEOPLE REALISE ๐Ÿšฝ

๐Ÿ˜” It's concerning to hear that some children may be avoiding school toilets because they are dirty, unsafe, or unpleasant to use.

When children regularly hold on and avoid going to the toilet, it can affect both bladder and bowel health.

โžก๏ธ Holding on can contribute to constipation.
โžก๏ธ Constipation can place pressure on the bladder.
โžก๏ธ Some children develop urgency, frequency, or daytime wetting.
โžก๏ธ For others, these habits may contribute to bedwetting.

๐ŸŒ€ Healthy bladder and bowel habits rely on children having access to clean, safe, functional toilets where they feel comfortable going when they need to.

๐ŸŒŸ It might be worth asking your child:

โžก๏ธ Do you go to the toilet when you need to at school - for wees and poos?
โžก๏ธ Are the school toilets clean and safe to use?
โžก๏ธ Do you ever hold on until you get home?

You might be surprised by the answers.

Is your child wetting the bed because they are deeply asleep... or because they are terrified of the dark? ๐ŸŒ™

A dark hallway at 2 AM can feel like a mountain to our kids. When the fear of scary shadows or cold floors takes over, children often freeze, try to ignore their bladder, and hope they can just fall back asleep.

The result? An accidental wet bed.

One of our favorite recommendations to break this cycle is the Bedside Potty Strategy. By shrinking the distance between their warm bed and a safe place to p*e, you take the fear out of the equation while their brain learns to process nighttime waking signals.

Want to know how to progress this strategy, or need recipes for DIY "Monster Spray" to clear out those scary bedroom shadows? ๐Ÿฆธโ™‚๏ธโœจ

"What's the fastest way to stop bedwetting?" ๐Ÿ›‘

It all comes down to whatโ€™s triggering it. For many kids aged 5-12, it's simply a breakdown in how the brain and bladder talk to each other at night. When we fix that communication, things just click. ๐Ÿง โœจ

If youโ€™re tired of managing the symptoms with bigger pull-ups and want to get to the root cause, letโ€™s talk.
