Still sore 48 hours after training? Here’s why and what the ice bath actually does about it 🥶
Intense exercise triggers an inflammatory response in your muscle tissue. Short term that’s useful. When it lingers it becomes the heaviness and stiffness that makes your next session harder than it needs to be.
Cold water immersion works directly on this:
— Blood vessels constrict, slowing the inflammatory cascade
— Metabolic waste products flush from the tissue
— Fresh oxygenated blood rushes back in on rewarming
— DOMS reduced, muscle function recovered faster
Research consistently shows cold water immersion outperforms passive rest for soreness reduction and recovery of muscle function between sessions.
One note: if hypertrophy is your goal, wait at least 6-8 hours post strength session before the cold. For cardio and endurance - get straight in.
Two ice baths. Right here inside The Gap Health & Racquet Club
First traditional sauna session is free - includes full access to the ice baths on your visit. Unlimited access to everything after that is only $28 a week. No lock-in.
