Movement IQ and skill.

It cannot be faked and it shows it's true colours very quickly.

The story goes that Gene only took the role if he could do this limp to front roll trick during his entrance.

He felt it added an important aspect to W***y Wonka that you couldn't tell wether he was lying or being honest at any given moment.

Still pure magic after 50 years.

Tight upper back?

A simple thoracic stretch to help restore posture and mobility.

Two variations....

1. Just hang out and relax your breathing for 30-60 seconds.

2. Add some PNF enhancement to it. Get to a good position of stretch, then pull the elbows into the bench with 1-2kg if pressure for 5 seconds, then release into a further stretch.

Simple. Effective.

Understand the ACTUAL problem BEFORE you suggest solutions.

Assessment with Andrew this week.

Pain History:

Injury began 4 years ago.

Severe pain around his lower back with focused bouts of sciatica into his left leg.

Buckled posture with his hips shifting to the left, shoulders to the right.

Recent cortisone injection that did nothing to help.

Step one:

Identify and remove the mechanism of his pain to let the injury settle.

We MUST do this in order to have any success with the rehab work.

For him, his biggest trigger was the shift from flexion to extension and vice versa.

This would occur even when sitting into or standing out of a chair.

So we began by addressing this faulty skill to make it back sparing and let his injury and pain begin to settle.

Chronic Back Injuries and Single Leg Impairments.

Single leg issues often go hand-in-hand with chronic lower back injuries.

So at some point....you will need to work on any imbalances you find.

A simple Touch Down Squat like this is a great tool to address these issues.

Be sure to engage the glute at all times and FIGHT for that stability and control.

Time to fix that busted arm and hip...

Today's Training...

How long can you single Arm hang? My all time record is 60 seconds.

Rack Carries 4 x 60 seconds each side at 16kg
Single Arm Hangs 4 x 20 seconds each arm
Reverse Lunges 4 x 6-12 reps each leg

I also did some Ab Wheel Rollouts and Glute-bridges 💪

Simple...but effective stuff.

Calve weakness and Chronic Lower Back Pain often go hand-in-hand and can lead to hip and glute issues on the weakened side.

A good way to start correcting this issue is with calve raises, using a ball between your heels to stop the classic "foot rolling out" cheat.

For Paul, after retesting we can see a definite improvement, which will mean his walking can help rather than hinder his back rehab process.

Have cortisone injections worked for your lower back pain?

For me, they make my job harder as I lose the key feedback mechanism to determine the mechanical nature of someone's lower back injury. This is the guiding factor to determine which exercises to use and also the dosage in which we can safely apply any interventions.

My clients that have had cortisone injections and ablations, IF they had some temporary relief, they will inadvertently exposure themselves to more mechanical damage without that pain feedback.

So when the injection wears off...they are hit with an avalanche of pain and problems.
