This year I'm lacing up my runners again for the Bridge to Brisbane 5km. 🏃‍♀️❤️

As the CEO of Teen Challenge QLD, I have the privilege of seeing lives transformed every day. I meet people who have overcome addiction, restored relationships with their families and discovered a future they never thought was possible.

I also know that these life-changing stories are only possible because people choose to partner with us.

That's why I'm walking.

I believe that if I'm asking others to support Teen Challenge QLD, I should be willing to do my part too.

Our residential rehabilitation centres receive no ongoing government funding, so fundraisers like this are vital. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide the care, support and hope that people need to rebuild their lives.

Recently, Gracie and I swapped emails, meetings and to-do lists for the beach. 😊

As we walked, I was reminded that life doesn’t always have to be rushed.

There is something about the sound of the waves, fresh air and God’s beautiful creation that has a way of settling the mind and refreshing the soul.

I’m learning that looking after ourselves isn’t selfish. It’s part of being able to keep showing up in a healthy way for the people we love and the work we’re called to do.

For me, it’s often as simple as taking a walk with Gracie and giving myself permission to pause.

What helps you slow down and recharge when life gets busy? ❤️

The one people call when something goes wrong.

The one who keeps the family moving, carries responsibility at work, checks in on everyone else, remembers what needs to be done, makes the decisions, solves the problems and somehow keeps showing up.

I know that woman because, in many ways, I am that woman.

And for a long time, I think I wore my capacity as a badge of honour.

I can handle it.
I’ll work it out.
I’ll keep going.
I’ll make sure everyone else is okay.

And most of the time, I do.

But I’m learning something in this season of my life…

Being strong doesn’t mean you never get tired.

It doesn’t mean you always have to be the one carrying everything.

And it certainly doesn’t mean you have to wait until you are completely depleted before you give yourself permission to stop.

I think so many women, particularly as we get older, have become incredibly good at functioning while tired.

We keep going.
We keep smiling.
We keep caring.
We keep leading.
We keep saying, “I’m fine.”

And because we are still functioning, everyone assumes we are okay.

Sometimes even we assume we are okay.

I’m learning that strength can also look like recognising when you need rest.

Asking for help.

Saying no without writing a three-paragraph explanation.

Taking your own wellbeing seriously.

Allowing someone else to carry something for a while.

And trusting that the world will keep turning even if you are not holding every piece of it together.

I’m still learning this one. ❤️

The truth is, life has been incredibly full.

There was all the preparation for a huge fundraising event, which was such a beautiful and incredibly special night, then moving house, work, family, leadership, and all the everyday things that somehow keep life very busy.

And alongside all of that, I’ve also been learning to navigate grief.

I’m discovering that grief doesn’t follow a timetable. It can sit quietly in the background and then catch you completely by surprise.

Somewhere in the middle of everything, I think I just ran out of space.

I didn’t make a decision to step away from social media. I simply didn’t have the capacity to keep showing up everywhere, so this space became a little quiet.

But I have missed being here.

And as I look back over these past couple of months, I’m also incredibly grateful.

There have been some really beautiful moments. I’ve watched people come together with extraordinary generosity. I’ve seen lives changed. I’ve laughed with people I love. We’ve moved into a new home. I’ve been reminded again and again of God’s faithfulness, even in the midst of some very full and difficult seasons.

Life has a way of holding joy and sadness at the same time, doesn’t it?

You can miss someone deeply and still laugh.

You can feel tired and still be incredibly grateful.

You can be carrying a lot and still recognise just how blessed you are.

I think I’m learning not to wait until everything is perfectly settled before enjoying the beautiful moments right in front of me.

So, I’m finding my way back here. ❤️

I’m looking forward to sharing more of life again. The things I’m learning, the things I’m curious about, faith, family, leadership, wellbeing, ageing well, and probably plenty of very ordinary moments in between.

But today, I’d just really love to know how you are.

I think many women are praised for carrying too much.

- Holding everything together.
- Being the dependable one.
- Showing up for everyone.
- Managing the family.
- Leading at work.
- Keeping all the invisible plates spinning.

And because we’re capable… people just assume we’re okay.

But being capable and being well are not the same thing.

Strength is admirable.
But constant self-neglect isn’t.

Somewhere along the way, many women learned that asking for nothing and carrying everything was a sign of strength.

🔸 I’m not sure that’s wisdom.

I think true strength also knows:

- When to pause.
- When to reset.
- When to recognise that your wellbeing matters too.

✔️ Feeling tired all the time.
✔️ Pushing through brain fog.
✔️ Running on caffeine.
✔️ Waking up exhausted and calling it “life.”

So many people slowly adjust to feeling less like themselves and eventually stop questioning it.

Not because they want to.

But because it becomes familiar.
And familiar can feel normal.

But “familiar” doesn’t always mean “healthy.”

I’m not talking about perfection.

I’m talking about paying attention.

Sometimes the most important question isn’t:
“What do I need to push through today?”

It’s: “Why have I accepted feeling this way?”

Often, the signs we ignore the longest are the ones trying to tell us the most.

Before jumping to worst-case conclusions, it’s worth looking honestly at a few simple things:

✅ Your sleep quality - Not just how many hours you’re getting… but whether your body is truly resting.

✅ Your stress load -Even ongoing low-level stress impacts the body more than many people realise.

✅ Your daily rhythms
Are you constantly pushing through… or creating space to slow down, reset and recover?

We live in a world that praises productivity, but the body keeps score.

Sometimes exhaustion isn’t failure.
Sometimes it’s feedback.

Small shifts, repeated consistently, can make a bigger difference than people think.

There’s something I’ve learned in leadership…

People don’t follow your words.
@
They follow your example.

✔️ Your consistency.
✔️ Your convictions.
✔️ Who you are when life is stretching you.

Anyone can lead when things are going well.

But real leadership is revealed in the quieter, harder seasons…

When you still show up, still carry responsibility, still move forward… even when it’s not easy.

Leadership isn’t about having all the answers.

It’s about being anchored.

And in my experience, that’s what people are really looking for.

I don’t agree with the idea that feeling tired, foggy and run down is just “part of getting older.”

I hear it all the time.

“It’s my age.”
“It’s just where I’m at now.”
“This is normal.”

But since when did “common” become the same as “healthy”?

We’ve normalised:
• low energy
• poor sleep
• brain fog
• constant fatigue

And instead of asking why…
we’ve just learned to live with it.

I’m not saying we can control everything.

But I am saying this…

Feeling tired, foggy and run down
is NOT just “age”

Since when did “common”
become “healthy”?

We’ve normalised:
✅ low energy
✅ poor sleep
✅ brain fog

And stopped asking why

I think we’ve accepted far less than what’s possible

Your body was designed to function well and heal and repair itself given the right support.

And I think we’ve accepted far less than what’s possible.
