Blood deficiency is one of the most common patterns I see in women in clinic and one of the least talked about. Pale, dull skin that doesn’t respond the way it should. Hair that has been falling out since the second baby. Fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. Treatments that are taking longer to work than expected. In Western medicine these are separate complaints. In Chinese Medicine they are the same picture.
Blood deficiency is particularly common in women. Especially mothers. Pregnancy and birth are deeply blood-depleting events and without deliberate rebuilding afterward that depletion can quietly persist for years, showing up in the skin, the hair, the energy, and the body’s ability to respond to treatment.
The skin is often the last place nourishment reaches and the first place depletion shows up. If this resonates, it’s worth paying attention to. A good place to start is consider having your iron checked, it’s one of the most commonly missed deficiencies in women and the overlap with blood deficiency in TCM is significant.
Something most clients don’t realise is that acupuncture is available as an add-on to any facial treatment at HERA.
Points are placed during your treatment and held throughout, acupuncture and facial work happening simultaneously, each deepening the effect of the other. So while your skin is being worked on, your nervous system is settling, circulation is moving and whatever your body needs to address that day is being supported quietly in the background.
It’s one of my favourite ways to treat. The combination of deep skin work and acupuncture in the same session produces a quality of result and a depth of relaxation that neither treatment achieves alone.
If you’ve been curious about acupuncture but weren’t sure where to start, this is a gentle way in. You’ll find it under add-ons when booking online. 🤍
