A common question I receive is:
"What does a lymphoedema physiotherapist actually do?"
Many people think lymphoedema treatment is just massage — but it’s much more than that.
A lymphoedema physiotherapist is specially trained to help manage swelling that can occur after cancer treatment, surgery, radiation, trauma or lymph node removal.
Treatment may include:
✨ Manual lymphatic drainage (gentle hands- on therapy)
✨ Swelling reduction by bandaging the limb
✨ Scar and tissue mobility through manual techniques
✨ Cording (Axillary Web Syndrome) treatment
✨ Compression garment fittings/advice
✨ Safe return-to-exercise programs
✨ Education to help you manage symptoms
long term
The goal is simple:
Reduce swelling, improve comfort, restore movement, and help you feel confident in your body again.
If you notice swelling, heaviness, tightness, or changes in your arm, breast, or chest after breast cancer treatment — early treatment can make a big difference.
