Running for the women who inspire us 💗

Today the girls laced up for a Mother’s Day Breast Cancer Fun Run — celebrating strength, resilience, community and all the incredible mums and women affected by breast cancer.

Movement is powerful, healing is personal, and no one should have to walk (or run) the journey alone 🎀✨

What is Cording (Axillary Web Syndrome)?

After breast cancer surgery or lymph node removal, some people develop tight “cord-like” bands under the skin — often felt through the armpit, arm, or even down into the wrist. This is called cording, or Axillary Web Syndrome.

Common signs may include:
▫️ Tightness or pulling when reaching overhead
▫️ Pain in the armpit or arm
▫️ Reduced shoulder movement
▫️ Visible or palpable “string-like” cords under the skin

The good news? 💛
Physiotherapy can help improve movement, reduce pain, and assist recovery with:
✔️ Gentle manual therapy
✔️ Scar and soft tissue treatment
✔️ Stretching & mobility exercises
✔️ Lymphatic techniques
✔️ Gradual strengthening and return to activity

You don’t have to “push through” the discomfort alone. Early treatment can make a big difference in helping you move comfortably and confidently again ✨

Dry needling ✨

Dry needling can help relieve muscle tightness, pain, tension and stubborn trigger points — while improving movement and helping your body feel less “stuck.”

Great for things like:
• neck & shoulder tension
• back pain
• headaches
• postural tightness
• muscle guarding after injury or surgery

Used alongside hands-on treatment and rehab, it can be a really effective part of your recovery 🤍

Recoverying from breast surgery can sometimes leave scars feeling tight, unomfotable or restricted.

Low level laser therapy is one of the tools we use at LFP to help softern scar tissue, improve circulation and support healing.

Combined with MLD and tailored rehabilitation, this treatment can help restore comfort and movement during recovery.

If you are experiencing tight scars, cording or early signs of swelling after surgery, physiotherapy can help.

A common question I receive is:

"What does a lymphoedema physiotherapist actually do?"

Many people think lymphoedema treatment is just massage — but it’s much more than that.
A lymphoedema physiotherapist is specially trained to help manage swelling that can occur after cancer treatment, surgery, radiation, trauma or lymph node removal.

Treatment may include:
✨ Manual lymphatic drainage (gentle hands- on therapy)
✨ Swelling reduction by bandaging the limb
✨ Scar and tissue mobility through manual techniques
✨ Cording (Axillary Web Syndrome) treatment
✨ Compression garment fittings/advice
✨ Safe return-to-exercise programs
✨ Education to help you manage symptoms
long term

The goal is simple:
Reduce swelling, improve comfort, restore movement, and help you feel confident in your body again.

If you notice swelling, heaviness, tightness, or changes in your arm, breast, or chest after breast cancer treatment — early treatment can make a big difference.

Bookings can be made via: www.lymphflowphysio.com.au
