Our current client, Greg, first approached SIS with persistent lower-back pain and was able to confidently deadlift again, thanks to consistent sessions with an exercise physiologist and a personalised strength-rehab plan tuned to his progress, with twice-weekly coaching that prioritised mobility, core stability and progressive overload.

This is a classic example of how lower back pain is multifactorial: biomechanical considerations, muscle imbalances, movement patterns, lifestyle factors and psychosocial stressors can all interact to create and perpetuate symptoms. Because of that complexity, it is so important to have personalised care that targets the specific drivers for each person-combining tailored exercise, education, ergonomic adjustments and pacing strategies- to help someone return to a pain-free state and reduce the risk of reinjury.

Meet C, a committed client who came to us at SIS and the Cube Allied Health with a clear goal: injury prevention and building full-body strength to support his long-term health and performance.

C regularly attends the Strong Seniors class each week at our Brookvale location, showing up with consistency and a great attitude toward improving his strength and movement. While he wasn’t dealing with a specific injury, he understood the importance of proactive care- addressing potential weaknesses, improving movement quality, and building resilience through structured training. 💪

We guided C through a comprehensive assessment to identify areas for improvement across his strength, mobility, and overall biomechanics. His program was tailored to support whole-body strengthening, ensuring he could move efficiently and safely while progressively building capacity.

With consistent effort and the right support, C has made incredible progress. Recently achieving a huge 150kg personal best deadlift- an impressive reflection of his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the process.👏

C’s journey is a great reminder that training isn’t just about fixing problems- it’s about preventing them and unlocking your full potential. With the right guidance, you can build strength, confidence, and longevity in your movement.

At SIS, we’re here to support that journey- helping you move better, get stronger, and continue doing what you love for years to come.

Most people focus on lifting the weight… but the lowering phase matters just as much.

Every strength movement has two key phases:

Concentric – when the muscle shortens to produce force (like standing up from a squat)
Eccentric – when the muscle lengthens while controlling load (like lowering into a squat)

Both play a role in building strength, control, and resilience.

Why does this matter?

✔️ Improves overall strength development
✔️ Helps muscles absorb and control force
✔️ Supports tendon health and tissue adaptation
✔️ Plays a key role in injury prevention and rehabilitation

Whether you're training for performance or recovering from injury, training both phases of movement is essential.

Save this post to remember the difference next time you're training 💪

A huge part of the work we do at Sydney Injury Specialists is prevention - and it looks different for everyone.
Preventing a fall. Preventing a co-morbidity. Preventing ongoing SIJ dysfunction. Preventing urinary incontinence post-childbirth. Preventing a major joint replacement. Preventing those recurring “same spot every time” injuries caused by muscular imbalances.

✨ In Australia, 1 in 3 adults over 65 experiences at least one fall every year (NSW Health).
✨ 7 in 10 Australians are living with at least one chronic condition - and exercise is a key strategy in prevention and long-term management (AIHW).
✨ Up to 50% of Australian women experience some degree of pelvic floor dysfunction postpartum (Continence Foundation of Australia).
✨ Knee and hip replacements continue to rise across Australia, with demand increasing by more than 30% in the past decade (AOA National Joint Registry).

This is where Exercise Physiology truly shines.
We provide the structure, clinical knowledge and long-term support needed to rebuild strength, correct movement patterns, and keep your body functioning at its best - not just today, but for decades to come.

If your goal is to stay healthy, mobile and confident long-term… prevention starts now. 💛

✨ 1. Improves How Your Body Uses Insulin
Exercise helps your body become more sensitive to insulin, which is super important for managing PCOS. Even if you don’t lose weight, regular movement helps your muscles use sugar better—this means better energy and fewer insulin spikes.

✨ 2. Helps Balance Hormones
Working out can help lower testosterone levels by boosting a protein called SHBG that keeps excess hormones in check. Exercise also reduces insulin levels, which can help bring your hormone levels closer to balance. Some women even find their periods become more regular over time with consistent movement.

✨ 3. Supports Heart Health & Body Composition
Regular exercise helps reduce belly fat, even without major weight loss. It’s also great for your heart and boosts fitness levels overall. Plus, it helps your muscles work better at using energy, which supports your metabolism.

✨ 4. Boosts Mental Health & Quality of Life
Struggling with mood, stress, or body image? Exercise has been shown to help reduce anxiety and depression in women with PCOS. It can also help you feel more in control of your health, body, and overall wellbeing.
