Vegie Swap at Bulleen Art & Garden

Swap your vegies and meet other food gardeners every 3rd Saturday 10-11am Come along to share your produce & compare notes with other food gardeners.

Vegie swaps are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Bulleen Art and Garden, hope you can make it. Bring along any vegies, fruit or herbs you have harvested. Also eggs, preserves, seeds, seedlings, recipes are welcome. Be inventive! Try to bring some things that not everyone else is growing at this time of year. This is a non-commercial event – no money changes hands. Bring something to swap with others.

When soil gets too dry for too long it may become hydrophobic. A waxy coating forms that repels water so that it can’t soak through; like a sponge that dries out too much and doesn't absorb water when it's run under a tap.

Your plants may show signs of drought stress despite your diligent watering! You might be able to see the water rolling off the top, or down the sides of a pot.

You can test this out by digging a little way down after watering - is it dry when you thought you’d given plenty of water?
Products like RapidSoak are quick, band aid fixes. Long term you’ll be wanting to add…? You guessed it - organic materials like compost and aged manure! Plenty of organic material in your garden beds will improve the water holding capacity of your soil.

Vegie Swap is NOT ON at BAAG this Saturday

Please note that due to the extensive North East Link roadworks and detours around BAAG this weekend we have decided to move Vegie Swap to Saturday January the 24th. You will receive another reminder email this time next week.
BAAG will still be open as usual, but if you do plan to visit please allow quite a bit of extra time to get here.
See you on the 24th!
