✨ Case Study✨

This male client comes to me feeling completely lost. After multiple medical appointments and countless conversations, he still has zero answers about his symptoms.

His goals are simple:
✔ Function well
✔ Have clear skin

But his reality is far from simple. He is battling a heavy, exhausting web of symptoms:
*Severe skin issues & persistent itching (completely unresponsive to antihistamines)
*Kidney and cardiovascular concerns
*Extreme fatigue, often falling asleep mid-conversation
*Chronic sleep disturbances & memory issues
*Feeling constantly unsettled, restless, and "wired but tired"

Like many people, he has already sought medical advice and continues to work with his healthcare team. Whilst working alongside his medical team, my role is to take a broader view of the body through a functional lens. Because symptoms rarely occur in isolation. The skin, immune system, nervous system, cardiovascular system, sleep, energy production, and overall health are all interconnected.

To help us investigate further, we have commenced comprehensive functional testing, including Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, a Comprehensive Gut Microbiome Test, and Food Sensitivity Testing.

Through functional blood chemistry, we assess organ function, nutrient deficiencies, detoxification pathways, inflammation, diet and patterns of thyroid, iron, and blood sugar dysregulation. Rather than simply looking for disease, we use optimal ranges to identify areas of dysfunction before disease develops.

The gut assessment allows us to investigate digestion, nutrient absorption, the balance of beneficial and opportunistic bacteria, and rule out potential parasites or pathogens that may be contributing to symptoms.

Food sensitivity testing helps identify potential dietary triggers that may be driving immune activation and inflammation, allowing us to reduce the body's overall burden while supporting gut healing.

When we start looking at the body as a whole, patterns begin to emerge. This is why Functional Nutrition isn't about chasing symptoms. It's about asking, what is the body trying to communicate?

The samples are off to the lab. Stay tuned......

Your body doesn't work in isolated systems. Your gut, hormones, immune system, metabolism, and brain are constantly communicating with each other.

By supporting the gut and strengthening the foundations, you can create positive changes that extend far beyond digestion.

Most people don’t wait until things feel “really bad”… they slowly adapt to feeling not quite like themselves.

Low energy becomes normal.
Bloating becomes expected.
Skin, mood, digestion are all pushed aside.

Until it builds.

Your body is always communicating, and those early signs matter more than most people realise.

This is where a root-cause approach changes everything. Because it’s not just about how you feel now… it’s about how your body functions long-term.

If something feels off, don’t ignore it. Find the reason WHY.

Reach out or book a discovery call. I’m here to help you connect the dots and support your long-term health.

✨ What Is a Functional Nutritionist? ✨

A Functional Nutritionist looks beyond symptoms and asks “Why is this happening in the body?”

Rather than focusing on one symptom, one diagnosis, or one body system at a time, I look at how the body’s systems are working together. Whether it’s gut issues, inflammation, skin concerns, liver function, thyroid dysfunction, low iron, hormonal imbalances, blood sugar dysregulation, fatigue, or immune challenges, to name a few.

Everything is connected, and when one area is struggling, it can create a domino effect throughout the body. Using a combination of functional testing, health history, and symptom patterns, I help uncover underlying drivers that are contributing to your health concerns.

One of the most important things I remind my clients is that healing is rarely linear. Every person is different. Every body is different. Every health journey is different.

Some people notice improvements quickly, while others require more time, particularly when there are multiple layers of dysfunction, or long-standing health concerns involved.

There is rarely one food, one supplement, or one quick fix that creates lasting change. More often, healing happens through the accumulation of small, consistent steps over time.

A big part of this journey is learning to understand and listen to your body again. So many people have been experiencing symptoms for years that they’ve started to believe they’re “normal.” Your symptoms are often the body’s way of communicating that something needs attention.

As we work through the healing process, many clients are surprised by how much their body has been signalling all along. Once you begin connecting the dots, those symptoms often start to make a lot more sense.

My role is to help uncover the pieces of the puzzle, support the foundations, and guide you through the process so your body has the best opportunity to heal, rebalance, and function the way it was designed to. Because health isn’t about chasing symptoms, it’s about understanding the person behind them.

✨ Let’s Clear the Air about Functional Nutrition & Naturopaths ✨

I often get asked:
“Are you a naturopath?”

While there may be some smilarities, I'm not a Naturopath. I love my naturopath peeps and the incredible work they do, but it is different & my practice sits firmly in Functional Nutrition, closely aligned with Functional Medicine.

This post is simply about sharing my own lens, training, philosophy, and how we, functional nutritionists, personally approach health care as practitioners, not about defining naturopaths.

If you follow leaders in Functional Medicine like Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Will Cole, Dr. Jeffrey Bland, or Dr. Josh Axe, you'll find a science-backed framework and philosophy that heavily inspires how many functional nutritionists approach health.

We don’t look at the body as a list of random symptoms. We look at it as an interconnected system. And for me, the gut & nutrition are the foundation.

Instead of asking:
“What supplement matches this symptom?”
I ask:
“WHY is this happening in the body?”

This is where Functional Blood Chemistry, Gut Testing, and Nutrition become so powerful.

Many people are told their labs are “normal” while still struggling with: fatigue, bloating, skin issues, hormone symptoms, inflammation, brain fog, blood sugar issues, ongoing gut problems to name a few...

That’s because conventional ranges are designed to detect disease. Functional ranges looks more deeply, assessing patterns, dysfunction, optimal function, and early imbalances before they progress to disease in the body.

Rather than guessing, we investigate:
🦠 Gut microbiome testing (because the gut is the foundation of so many body systems)
🧪 Functional blood chemistry
🍎 Nutrition, digestion + absorption
🔥 Inflammation patterns
🩸 Blood sugar regulation
🧠 Stress + nervous system function
✨ Hormonal connections
💊 Nutrient deficiencies
🛡️ Immune activation + food sensitivities
…to name a few.

Because symptoms are never random, they’re connected.

My goal is to help uncover the root cause & create a personalised, science-backed plan tailored specifically to your bio-individuality.

Bloating. Fatigue. Brain fog. Skin flare-ups. Food sensitivities.

What if your symptoms aren’t random… but connected through the gut?

Leaky gut may play a role in inflammation, immune stress, food reactions, and symptoms throughout the whole body, not just digestion.

Akkermansia, a beneficial gut bacterium, is also important for supporting the gut lining and maintaining a strong gut barrier.

Because when the gut is struggling, the whole body can feel it. ✨

This woman came to me wanting answers. 🤍

At 46 years old, she’s active, busy, and trying to take care of herself — yet struggling with:
• fatigue
• bloating & constipation
• anxiety
• poor sleep
• heavy periods
• high cholesterol
• peri-menopausal symptoms
• a difficult relationship with food
• wanting to better understand her body after gastric surgery

Most importantly, she wants to age well, feel good in her body again, and understand what her body may be trying to tell her.

Like so many women, she’s been left feeling frustrated, exhausted, and disconnected from her health despite doing all the “right” things.

This is where functional testing and a root-cause approach can be so powerful.

Because symptoms are rarely random, and the body works as an interconnected system. Rather than looking at one symptom in isolation, we’ll be looking at the body as a whole to understand how her digestion, hormones, nervous system, metabolism, stress response, nutrient status, and overall function may all be connected.

Every person is different, which is why understanding the bigger picture matters.

Using functional blood chemistry testing, gut testing, symptom presentation, and health history, we’ll begin uncovering what may really be driving these symptoms beneath the surface.

I cannot wait to share this case study with you all 🤍
