Running out of NDIS funding before the end of a plan period is one of the most stressful situations a participant can face.

But it's not always a dead end.

In certain circumstances, including financial fraud, a safety emergency, or barriers to accessing a plan review - the NDIA may consider a manual claim.

We've written a clear, practical guide covering:
βœ… What triggers a manual claim
βœ… What evidence is needed
βœ… How the new funding period model affects this
βœ… How to prevent overspending in the first place

Perfect for participants, families, and support coordinators navigating a tough situation.

STR is in the plan. Now what does it actually cover? πŸ‘‡

Short Term Respite gives participants at least one night away from their primary carer - and the NDIS funds more than most people realise.

βœ… Standard accommodation (stationary - same place to sleep and wake)
βœ… The participant's usual level of support (personal care, community access)
βœ… Overnight support worker costs if needed
❌ Not covered: meals, activities, airfares, holidays, interstate travel

Transport is a common question too: if the participant can use public transport independently, STR funding can't cover the trip. Separate transport funding in the plan can still be used.

Save this one for your next STR conversation. πŸ’Ύ

Big NDIS update worth knowing about πŸ“’

From 1 July 2026, all providers delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) and/or NDIS digital platform services must become registered providers. Existing providers have until 1 October 2026 to apply for registration.

Here's what this means for you:

β€’ If you use a SIL provider, talk to them and ask if they're registered, or planning to register before 1 October 2026.

β€’ If you organise and employ your own support workers and don't use a SIL provider, this change doesn't apply to you. No action needed.

β€’ Your plan and NDIS funding won't change. We'll help you understand your options if your provider doesn't register.

Got questions about what this means for your plan? Reach out to our team, happy to help. πŸ’œ

You might know it as Respite. Then STA. Now the NDIS calls it Short Term Respite (STR).

Same purpose, clearer name: giving participants time away from their primary carer, so both can rest, recharge, and keep showing up for each other.

STR can be used for up to 14 days at a time, with a maximum of 28 days per year, but understanding what can and can't be funded is where things can get a little confusing.

πŸ“§ More information has been dropped straight into your inbox. Just search "STR Simplified for Support Coordinators" to read the full details.

Today our Business Development manager Hayley, brought together a brilliant group of NDIS professionals for a "Hot Seat' event, all united by one goal: better outcomes for the people we support.

This is what growing a purposeful network looks like. We're so proud to be part of it. πŸ’™

A huge thank you to Hayley and the APM team, for bringing this event to life and big thanks to all who took time out of their day to attend.

We absolutely can't wait to do it all again. See you at the next one! πŸ’ƒ
