💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 15 June 💜
Today we stand together to raise awareness of elder abuse and support the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of older Australians.
Did you know that 1 in 6 older Australians experience some form of elder abuse each year? Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, sexual, neglect, or abandonment—and it often goes unnoticed.
🚩 Signs to look out for may include:
• Unexplained injuries or bruising
• Sudden changes in mood or behaviour
• Withdrawal from family, friends, or activities
• Poor hygiene or unmet care needs
• Unusual banking activity or missing belongings
• Fearfulness, anxiety, or depression
💬 Spot the signs. Start the conversation.
Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued as they age. By raising awareness and checking in on older people in our community, we can help prevent elder abuse and ensure support is available when needed.
