Most families come to us having spent years in spaces where they felt like they had to hold it together, keep their child still, apologise for the noise, and mask in these types of environments 😮‍💨

That is not how we do things here 🌻

Sunny Steps was built for real families, with real kids, having real days. The shoes come off, the toys stay on the floor, and nobody in our team is going to look at your child sideways for being exactly who they are 👍

This actually happened 🤯 And I sat there for a second wondering if I had somehow misheard the question back to myself!

Finding good support workers is one of the hardest, most exhausting parts of being a parent in this space 😮‍💨

Families are already running on empty and then they have to interview, vet, and trial people, sometimes over and over again, all while managing everything else ✨

The bar should not be this low. Our kids deserve people who actually know what autism is 🌻

So many families walk into the NDIS already believing things that are working against them, and it is not their fault because the system is not exactly transparent about how any of it actually works.

These five things come up constantly in conversations with families navigating the NDIS, and getting them wrong costs people time, funding, and energy they really do not have to spare.

The NDIS is not supposed to feel this hard 😮‍💨

But for most families it does, and that is not a reflection of how smart or capable you are. It is a reflection of how poorly the system is designed for the people who need it most 🤯

This is why we exist. Not to hand you a brochure and wish you luck, but to sit with you, understand your family’s actual life, and translate all of it into a plan that works for you 🌻

You should not need a background in policy to access the support your child deserves. That is our job, not yours 👍

Getting a plan back that doesn’t reflect what your child actually needs is one of the most deflating parts of the whole process 😩

It happens constantly, and most families accept it because nobody tells them they don’t have to!

You can push back 🙌 There is a process for it, it costs nothing, and you do not need a lawyer or a professional advocate to get started.

Save this and come back to it when you need it.

This actually happened to me 😩 I was told I did not need respite because I chose to homeschool, as if that choice somehow cancelled out the reality of being a full time carer!

I did not choose homeschooling because it was convenient. I chose it because the school system could not meet my child’s needs and I had no other option 🌻

The care load did not change, the exhaustion did not change, the only thing that changed was that the system had a reason to look the other way 🤯
