Five years of Empowerment Support Services has taught us a lot.

💜 That continuity matters — familiar faces build trust.

💙 That communication matters — people deserve to know what’s happening with their supports.

🦋 That the little things are often the big things — showing up, listening and doing what you say you will do.

💜 That every person is different — and support should never be one-size-fits-all.

💙 That our support workers are the heart of what we do— their compassion, patience and dedication make a difference every single day.

🦋 That running a small, family-owned provider isn't always easy — but being able to know our participants, families and staff personally makes it worth it.

And most importantly…

5 years has taught us to never lose sight of why we started.

To provide support with compassion, flexibility, consistency and heart.

When you welcome a support worker into your life, you're placing a lot of trust in them — and we don't take that lightly.

At Empowerment Support Services, respecting privacy isn't just about following policies. It's about dignity, respect and trust.

🦋 Personal information stays private
🦋 Conversations are treated confidentially
🦋 Photos are never something we expect in order to tell a good story
🦋 Participants have the right to decide what they share and with whom
🦋 Support should never come at the cost of someone's dignity or privacy

You might notice that we don't fill our social media pages with photos of the people we support.

That's intentional. 💙

We can celebrate inclusion, disability, independence and the wonderful work our team does without putting participants' private lives on display.

Because receiving support doesn't make someone's life public.

At ESS, we will always believe that privacy, dignity and choice matter.

Today we are celebrating 5 incredible years of Empowerment Support Services! 🥳🦋

Five years ago, we started with a simple vision — to create a provider where people were treated like people, not numbers. A provider built on compassion, reliability, flexibility, continuity and genuine relationships.

Fast forward five years and we are incredibly proud of what ESS has become. 💙

From humble beginnings to supporting people across the North West Coast of Tasmania, growing an amazing team and becoming part of so many people's journeys — it has certainly been a ride!

But through all the growth and changes, one thing has never changed…

Our people will always come first.

To our participants and families — thank you for trusting us.

To our amazing staff — thank you for bringing our values to life every single day.

To the support coordinators, allied health professionals, community organisations and everyone who has supported, referred to or recommended ESS — thank you for believing in us.

At Empowerment Support Services, we believe learning never stops.

Our support workers have access to an online training platform, giving them the opportunity to regularly upskill, refresh their knowledge and stay informed as the NDIS continues to change and evolve.

💜 MYTH vs FACT – What Can Your Support Provider Actually Do? 💜

There can be a lot of confusion around what disability support providers can and can’t do. Let’s bust a few myths! 👇

❌ MYTH: Your provider decides how you spend your funding.
✅ FACT: Your funding is yours. We can help you understand your supports and make informed choices, but you have choice and control.

❌ MYTH: Support workers are just there to clean or drive you places.
✅ FACT: Support can be about so much more! We can work alongside you on independence, daily living skills, meal preparation, community participation and achieving your goals.

❌ MYTH: Your provider can make decisions for you.
✅ FACT: Our role is to support your choices, not make them for you.

❌ MYTH: A support worker can do anything you ask because you're paying for the service.
✅ FACT: Supports still need to be safe, appropriate, within the worker's role and agreed services, and meet relevant funding and service requirements.

❌ MYTH: You have to stay with a provider if you're unhappy.
✅ FACT: You have the right to raise concerns, ask for changes and choose who provides your supports, subject to your service agreement.

💡 Good support isn't about taking over. It's about working alongside you, building independence and supporting you to live your life your way.
