Six weeks have now passed, and we are still here in the ICU. Jaxson continues to battle a persistent lung infection.

Unfortunately, the broad-spectrum antibiotics were unable to eradicate the bacteria. A swab has now been taken for further analysis, with the hope of identifying the bacteria more precisely and determining the most appropriate medication to effectively treat the infection.

We can only pray and remain hopeful that this new medication will be the right match to finally control and clear his ongoing infection.

We have been through many incredibly difficult journeys over the past three years, but this has undoubtedly been one of our most challenging. As time passes, the emotional and physical toll becomes increasingly difficult.

We deeply appreciate everyone who continues to support us, send their love, and keep Jaxson in their thoughts and prayers. ❤️🙏

Everything feels so different in Guangzhou compared to Beijing.

Their local supermarkets are unlike anything we’ve seen in Australia and honestly look more like our Australian aquariums! 🐟🐢🐸

There are tanks filled with live fish, turtles, crustaceans and even frogs all available to buy fresh for your next home-cooked meal. 😳

We’re still trying to find foods that really satisfy our hunger. We’ve been to plenty of restaurants where things like pig’s brain and snail soup are on the menu.

Let’s just say we’re not in any rush to challenge ourselves with those ones yet! 😂

I did, however, convince Phillip to try his first chicken foot. 🐓

To my surprise, he gave it the thumbs up! 👍😂

Now I’m working on convincing Tim to give them a try… 🤣

Every day here seems to bring something new, and we’re definitely getting a very different experience of China in Guangzhou. 🇨🇳❤️

Jaxson’s rehabilitation journey has begun.

Just days after arriving, his dedicated team has begun introducing therapies designed to gently stimulate his body and brain, while supporting his recovery and helping him regain strength and function.

These include:

• Arousal Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Vibration Vest Therapy
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
• Oral Therapy
• Traditional Chinese Bowel Therapy

Every movement, every response and every sign means progress.

We don’t know how long this journey will take or what challenges may lie ahead, but each day brings new hope. We remain focused on Jaxson’s recovery, taking each day as it comes with strength, determination and unwavering faith in his healing. ❤️

Jaxson has finally made it to Zhaoqing Rehabilitation Hospital a huge milestone in his journey and the beginning of a new chapter in his recovery.

Zhaoqing is a Grade III, highest-level specialised rehabilitation hospital, with experienced teams and advanced facilities focused on complex neurological and critical-care rehabilitation.

We are incredibly grateful that Professor Ling Feng, the hospital’s Chief Scientist, continues to be closely involved in Jaxson’s care. Her expertise, guidance and unwavering support bring us so much comfort and strength as we navigate this incredibly difficult journey.

After everything Jaxson has endured, we are holding onto hope. We pray this new environment, specialised care and dedicated team can give him the best possible opportunity to heal, regain strength and continue moving forward.

In Australia, we’ve experienced the usual pathway of remaining in ICU until medically stable enough to begin rehabilitation.

Jaxson’s journey in China will look a little different.

He will soon undertake a 2,000 km journey from Beijing to Guangzhou by high-speed rail, taking approximately 9 hours.

This transfer will allow Jaxson to begin specialised neurological rehabilitation while continuing to receive close medical care.

A doctor and two nurses from the rehabilitation hospital will travel to Beijing with all the necessary medical equipment and complete a full handover with Jaxson’s ICU team.

Jaxson will travel in a specially equipped vehicle with a hospital bed, as he must remain flat throughout the journey. His bed will be transferred directly into the train, with his medical team by his side throughout.

This is a high-risk, meticulously coordinated medical transfer, planned down to every detail. While the risks are significant, it represents a critical step forward in Jaxson’s journey.

Day 20 in ICU, and Jaxson is still critically ill.

We’ve been through ICU before, but experiencing this in another country is completely different. The unfamiliar surroundings, language and uncertainty add another layer to an already difficult journey.

Each day feels heavier, and some moments it feels like we are simply trying to get through the next hour.

Seeing body bags being taken from hospital rooms is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life is and how precious every moment becomes.

We continue to look for those small signs. We hope, we pray and we believe this nightmare will eventually turn around.

For now, we focus on what we can control stretching, movement, nutrition and being present.

We hold Jaxson’s hand, talk to him and remind him that he is loved and never alone.

Being confined to an ICU room with Jaxson, who now has a lung infection, is honestly so difficult.

One room. No TV. No bed for me. No shower. There is very little to no communication, and people are constantly coming in and out of the room, day and night.

Today is day 4 for me in the ICU room. Luckily, I still have some clean clothes because, honestly… I’m starting to stink. 😂

When Tim feels he has the strength, he brings me my one meal for the day and, most importantly, an extra-large coffee in the morning. ❤️☕

I’m averaging maybe 2–3 hours of sleep a night, and even that is broken and interrupted.

My saving grace is my phone.

But more than anything, I want my family back together. Phillip hasn’t seen Jaxson for 14 days, and he misses his brother so incredibly much. 💔

I could leave the room, but I just can’t leave Jaxson’s side. With the language barrier and his inability to communicate, I need to be there for him.

So I stay. ❤️‍🩹

As difficult and heartbreaking as this moment is, I still consider it a blessing that I can be here with him. ❤️‍🩹

But I need a little help getting through these next few days.

Day 13 in ICU
Still here 🥲

Unfortunately, Jaxson has had some breathing difficulties today, and the doctors have made the decision that they feel it is safest for him to be intubated again.

It’s heartbreaking. Just when we hope we are taking another step forward, we seem to be facing another setback.

On top of everything Jaxson is going through, he has also been battling high temperatures, and now Tim is sick too. We are exhausted, worried and honestly struggling to see the light at the moment.

This journey is getting tougher. 💔 But Jaxson is still fighting & so are we.

Please keep our beautiful boy in your thoughts. He needs every bit of strength, love and hope we can give him right now. ❤️‍🩹💙
