👶Moving from LYING to SITTING - how to help your baby learn this skill⬇️

🧩Once a baby can safely sit on their own, they often prefer to sit and play rather than lie on their back or tummy.

So we tend to naturally place them in sitting for playtime, and whilst this is a great position for skill development, providing them with opportunities to learn how to transition into sitting on their own is just as important‼️

⏩️Swipe through to see how you can support your baby to develop this valuable skill!

Can your baby sit on their own but struggles to get themselves up into this position❓

⭐️SIDE LYING⭐️ One of the most underrated play positions for babies!

We all hear about the importance of tummy time, but we often forget about side lying….and it’s just as important‼️

✅Playing in side lying has many benefits for development, and you can start doing this with your baby as early as the first month of life.

👶Your baby may need support to stay in this position - you can use a rolled-up blanket or your leg behind them to help keep them on their side.

Trust your gut.

If something feels off with your child, even when you’re being told “everything is fine”, it’s okay to keep asking questions.

Ask another professional. Ask someone who has been through it. Get a second, third or fifth opinion if you need to.

Some of you know part of our journey with my second, and how many concerns were dismissed before we finally found answers. And even now, there are times where things still don’t feel like they fully add up.

I say this from a very privileged position, with health literacy, English as my first language, and the confidence to keep pushing. And honestly, I often think about the families who don’t have that same access, knowledge or voice in the system.

Parents deserve to be heard.
Children deserve to be looked at properly.
And your gut feeling matters 🤍

But we are here to help‼️

🚗In Australia, road traffic crashes are one of the leading causes of injury and death for children aged 1-16 years of age (Neuroscience Research Australia and Kidsafe Australia, 2020).

✔️Using the most appropriate car seat for your child’s age and size can help keep them as safe as possible!

📏Children should remain rear facing until they reach the maximum height limit.
Don’t be in a hurry to move them into the next stage restraint️‼️

⭐Correct installation and use are also very important factors.
The risk of life-threatening injuries has been shown to be 4-6 times greater with incorrect installation or when the child is incorrectly strapped into the car seat (Neuroscience Research Australia and Kidsafe Australia, 2020).
🛠️Regular checks by an accredited restraint fitter are recommended
