Ok, I've got a confession to make .. and some exciting photos to show! ✨🖤✨

Obsidian is not a crystal but a glass. It's the only name in our EcoGlitz® range that is actually not a crystal. There's always an exception or a black sheep in a flock of glitter.
And we love those exceptions. ✨🖤✨

And because we are still in , we are showing you some photos from Black Pride in Cairns 2019 when US drag queen and DuPaul's Drag Race finalist Honey Davenport came for a visit - also at our stall!

What a great opportunity to meet and greet the star at a relaxed barbie on the Esplanade! So we slabbed on EcoGlitz® Obsidian, got into that black glitter jumpsuit and joined the Black Picnic organized by the Haus Of BlackStar

Did you know that Purpurite is not a crystal like others?
It is a purple to brownish mineral that is so soft and brittle that the bipyramidal crystal habit are more like a nugget. It is never transparent and is too soft for wear.

Kids absolutely love EcoGlitz® Purpurite on face, body and hair. This delicate hue of our autumnal glitter series is suited as make up for every day, everywhere.

Presenting to you: EcoGlitz® Garnet - Tantarara! !!!

EcoGlitz® Garnet is the most colourful glitter in our autumnal glitter series and perfect for lush deep burgundy lips or sparkly cheeks.

Garnets are silicate minerals that have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasives. Red garnets were the most commonly used gemstones in the Late Antique Roman world. Pure crystals of garnet are still used as gemstones in shades of green, red, yellow, and orange. It's the different chemical composition that changes the colour of the stones. Red garnet represents love and is often called the stone of commitment.

For a scientist the beauty of crystals is the perfect order of their atoms on the microscopic level that also translates into a visible symmetry of their macroscopic shape. For garnet crystals, the silicate and metal atoms crystallize in the cubic system and the crystals are most often in the form of a dodecahedron like on the label of EcoGlitz® Garnet.

Happy World Environment Day! 🌏✨🌱

This year's theme is 'Time for Nature': learn how all living things on Earth are connected in the web of life and how we can act

Right now and here in Australia there is one very important thing to do: pulling out weeds to not only help nature recover from the fires but to create a healthier home for native animals.

Why is weeding so critical right now?

In burnt areas some weeds were killed but their seeds got stimulated to germinate. If nothing is done, their seedlings will out-compete native plants by blocking access to sunlight and once again totally take over bush and rainforest.

Many hands can take out weeds before they seed – leaving only few older seeds - creating space for native plants to flourish and habitat for native species. Then our national parks and reserves – and even bushland on farms – will be in a better state than they were before the fires.

And here is where you can find or offer help:

Sparkle responsibly this autumn with a dash of Copper.

When humans started using metals, Copper was one of the first as early as 8000 BC because it is found in nature in a directly usable metallic form. Later, Copper was the first metal to be smelted, to be shaped in a mold and then used in an alloy to create bronze.

In cosmetics, copper is one of the most common colors for eye makeup maybe because it was associated with the goddess Venus from the beginning of time.
EcoGlitz® Copper can be used as your sparkly delicate makeup for daytime, as a metallic drop for the inner corners of your eyes or to line your eyes and lips with glamorous metallic glitter for a night out.

Gold has fascinated humankind since 8000 years and in Ayurvedic wisdom it is considered our essence created from the love of the universe.
So no surprise that EcoGlitz® Gold is one of our most sold glitters.

As most metals, its atoms are arranged in a crystalline structure in a densely packed cubic symmetry. But Gold is very soft and malleable so it comes in many forms like wires, crystals, sheets, and nuggets. Like the 1.5kg heavy Australian rock shown on a photo below, a nugget is also drawn on our label.

Heard about that scroll written 400 years ago that read 'All that glitters is not gold'? It's also true for EcoGlitz® Gold. There is no Gold in our glitter but no plastic either!
The golden sparkles in EcoGlitz® Gold come from quartz crystals covered in iron oxides. They are called synthetic mica and are known to be environmental friendly and ethically produced without using child labour!

And the best: the cream is easy to apply even for kids. And even when the golden sparkles fall onto the ground they are just like dust and when they reach the ocean it is like adding sand to the ocean. So it's okay and really easy to wash off EcoGlitz® in the shower.
No composting required!
No mess in your house!

How to celebrate International Day of Biodiversity this year?

We certainly had a spectacular year so far, right from day 1.
In Australia, billions of animals have been killed in out-of-control bushfires and some species have been pushed to the brink of extinction.

And scientists say Australia’s worst-ever bushfire season is ‘not the new normal’.
They said our bushfires were about to get much worse. Heatwaves, droughts and heavy rain events are becoming more extreme too, unless we are combating the major causes of climate change (www.climatecouncil.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/report-primed-for-action.pdf).

Not a good outlook for biodiversity!

But haven't we just reduced our carbon emissions due to the coronavirus lockdown?

Yes, but it wasn't enough to reduce the severity of Australia’s bushfires according to a report of the International Energy Agency (www.iea.org/topics/covid-19). And bushfire experts call urgently to overhaul the nations bushfire policies before the season starts.

The time to act is right now while we can do cold burns.

Earlier this year we heard a lot about Indigenous burning practices. We have great Indigenous leaders like Victor Stephenson to show us the way (abc.net.au/news/2020-04-13/victor-steffensen/12141036). And let's get our local Traditional Owners involved as they hold valuable local knowledge. Your local Aboriginal Land Council or Native Title representative body will be able to help contacting them. We're in this together .. which coincidentally is also the theme for National Reconciliation Week 2020 starting next Wednesday, 27 May.

And here's a silver lining: COVID-19 gives us an opportunity to act on climate change and reduce the severity of Australia’s bushfires as we have to re-think our economy in a way that is better for jobs and better for the planet.

No better way to celebrate our precious biodiversity. 💙🌏💚

Welcome sparkle lover!

Here you will find biodegradable Sparkles and EcoGlitz® crystal glitters.

*Sparkles* are made from sustainably grown eucalyptus trees which are transformed into a biodegradable plastic and then covered with your beautifully shiny and colored metal layers. But they require composting to be environmental friendly because they are a microplastic that biota can eat in the right conditions. Once they are in the ocean, they will be there for a really long time, and can cause similar damage to conventional glitters.
So please, once you had your fun with the Sparkles take them off with a wet paper towel and make sure it gets into the compost. This can be your garden compost or council's green bin.

*EcoGlitz®* is a unique plastic-free vegan glitter cream in over 20 vibrant colours that doesn't need to get composted.

We handcraft EcoGlitz® with certified organic Australian plant ingredients, food-grade preservatives and shimmering crystals. All ingredients are cosmetic grade for use on sensitive skin; like around eyes and on lips. And then it washes off just with water.

EcoGlitz® is easy to apply to face, hair and body and feels great on your skin. No nasty glitter glue needed.
Apply thickly for a clean strong mirror-like line as precise as make-up. Or use a smaller dab and lighter coat for a thin shimmery feel. You can layer it for greater intensity of colour.

It's a great product to use every day as organic cosmetic, for the conscious fun lover and for children alike.

EcoGlitz® is an eco-friendly versatile best friend in your purse!
