For nearly 40 years, the rule on public conservation land was simple: nature comes first.

A bill in front of Parliament right now adds a new instruction, that the Department of Conservation must enable commercial use and development “to the greatest extent practicable.” It also creates “visitor amenities areas,” opening the door to hotels, cafes and commercial services inside conservation parks and national parks, with less public say.

After backlash, the Minister has pulled the part that would’ve made more land saleable, but the economic-development mandate is still in.

Submissions close 2 July. It takes five minutes.

Who else plays this game where they pretend to forget everything they think they know and just look at the world around them. It’s so insane and beautiful. What a trip. 🫶🏼✨

On this World Rainforest Day of 22 June we celebrate rainforests everywhere by bringing you a deep immersion of sight and sound. Our Co-Founder Alice Moffett has worked closely with rainforest projects and shares: “As a human species there is a need to not only act from the perspective of ‘saving the rainforest’. The earth knows how to look after itself. We need to save ourselves - and remember that the forests are vital for all life. To respect and acknowledge all they provide, and to breathe together. To remember that we share our breath with the trees, our rains are produced from the forest, medicines are grow inside and cultural wisdom comes from these places, and that forests provide great healing. They are home to the highest bodiversity on earth. Once you enter the forest with this much respect and wonder, you will have your first experience of awe and bliss and once this happens, you will be in love forever.”

Forests no longer feel outside of oneself, but rather a harmonious part of ourself and our experience of home.

We give thanks to the rainforest organisions we are close with (and encourage you to tag your own below):

Well, sometimes we are sad, and that’s ok 🫶 Nature will always be there to ground us back to ourselves, to help us to feel lighter, to remind us of who we are, and to bring in the happiness again. Earth appreciation everyday 🫶🌎🙏

And of course I love the nature in both countries, Australia’s biting creatures also come with epic creatures. Part in parcel. But there is something very relaxing about being abole to just lie in a bush without the fear of being bitten 😂😅.

We are super excited that our v2.0 app Luvia is coming out soon, we’ve been collecting sounds for the past three years from both Australia and new Zealand, from birds to river to seas, all times of the year, all seasons, from day night, to compile it all into ever evolving sound immersions so you can enjoy real nature, any time, anywhere ✨🫶🏼

Whales are seriously the most amazing creatures, they are so massive but have so much special awareness it’s crazy. And I feel like there is this connection we share as mammals.

I’m convinced that mum got sick of her baby nagging and was just like “fine” let’s go see the humans haha…

This earth is so full of incredible magic, you just have to go and put yourself amongst it all.

Ps, the reason I was out there was to record the whale sounds for our app! I promise once they are pitch shifted down they are incredibly relaxing to listen too haha,
Luvia 2.0 is coming soon and it’s a big one 🫶🏼✨✌🏻

There’s always one 🪶 It just takes some observation, and listening and soon enough you’ll notice it.

For our birdsong recordings we find the quietest places, which often take lots of walking and deep listening - which we love :)

Tune into the sound of Australian birds recorded to perfection in your soundscapes in Luvia App.

I love travel, but not turbulence - so I turned on Bali Sound World (coming soon to Luvia App), and blissed out enough to completely enjoy the sky view, in all its ever changing moments, and even catch a rainbow :)

The sounds in Luvia work to re-direct brain activity from an inward-focused pattern which is linked to anxiety and stress to an outward focused, restful state.

In a study conducted by the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, researchers measured brain activity on participants listening to nature sounds vs artificial sounds. And the results are what we already feel: nature sounds create an instant restful state, while artificial sounds create patterns linked to anxiety, stress and rumination.

Luvia’s sound worlds are purposefully recorded and designed to move the nervous system out of fight and flight and into safety.

It’s a slow, gentle and artful process and we love the meaning it brings.
