This journey has not been easy. But having moved through these first three years of motherhood, I’ve come to understand that becoming a parent was never meant to be easy.
It is not an easy initiation. It is a profound one.
I did not choose to become a solo mother.
This experience was something I was moved through—bringing both immense love and profound grief.
The love is undeniable. My son is the most beautiful expression of life I could have ever imagined. And yet, alongside that love has been the reality of abandonment, betrayal, and the ongoing process of learning to hold both truth and heartbreak at once.
What has surprised me most is what has surfaced in the relationships around me.
I began to notice how deeply internalised beliefs around women, motherhood, and responsibility can shape the way we respond to one another.
At times, I experienced what felt like a “sister wound”—moments where other women, instead of holding space, found themselves defending or rationalising behaviour that had caused harm.
This added another layer to my grief. Not only was I navigating abandonment, but I was also navigating the complexity of misunderstanding and projection within my support network.
It has led me to reflect on how often women are asked—consciously or unconsciously—to normalise dynamics that leave them unsupported, particularly in motherhood.
For me, the experience became a mirror. It reflected back every pattern I had not yet fully healed.
I began to see how much of my life had been shaped by conditioning around what I needed to be in order to receive love, and how often I had overridden my own needs in the process.
An excerpt from my upcoming book, coming soon.
