If itâs always sweet treats after dinner in your house, your body could be trying to tell you something! đŞ
Donât get me wrong, Iâm a naturopath, not a monster. Chocolate = love. But everything in moderation right?!
If youâre stuck in a cycle of eating sugary foods in the evening, this is often a signal from the body that it may need more:
⢠Magnesium-rich foods đŤ
If itâs specifically chocolate youâre craving, try having more magnesium rich foods in your day such as cacao, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, quinoa, brown rice and beans!
⢠Complex & unprocessed carbs đ
Maybe you actually didnât eat enough during the day and now your body is asking for more in the quickest way possible - sugar. Ensure youâre eating plenty of fruit, veggies, legumes and whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat) throughout the day.
⢠Good fats đĽ
Healthy fats are great because they keep us fuller for longer and are needed to make healthy hormones. Think avocado, nuts, seeds, extra virgin olive oil, seafood, eggs, coconut oil, & tahini.
⢠Protein đł
Depending on your individual requirements, most women need about 1.5g of protein per kg of body weight. These are your meats, seafood, nuts, seeds, legumes, tofu, quinoa, & buckwheat.
As you can see thereâs a bit of overlap in these foods which makes it easier to get a good amount of each macronutrient into each meal. đ
Aside from diet, there are other factors that can cause sugar cravings such as blood sugar imbalances, high stress, poor sleep, and hormonal fluctuations. This is why naturopathic consultations and functional testing is paramount in supporting my clients.
