I always recommend testing, not guessing.
Inflammatory skin conditions can be incredibly debilitating and have a significant impact on mental wellbeing and quality of life.
These skin conditions have multiple root causes, and one common contributing factor I see with clients is copper toxicity, low zinc to copper ratio, zinc deficiency and zinc loss.
Zinc deficiency and copper excess may cause:
Increased oxidative stress
Increased inflammation
Altered immune regulation
Reduced antimicrobial defence
Impaired skin barrier repair
This pattern is commonly caused by environmental exposures via copper pipes, the copper IUD and the pill.
Zinc deficient vegetarian and vegan diets may also contribute as well as excess consumption of cacao, nuts, copper supplementation and copper peptides.
There’s a delicate balance between copper and zinc and they compete for absorption in the body. If zinc is low (which is hugely common and may contribute to inflammatory skin conditions) and copper exposure is high, an imbalance may develop impacting the skin.
Also important to note that copper tends to rise with liver stress and oestrogen excess. I’ve seen this many times with clients. It is important to confirm with well timed functional blood testing.
Comment HTMA and I will send you the HTMA I use with clients.
