3km Green Island Swim,
Thursday you were choppy 😮‍💨🌊
Survival stroke for parts of it!

Waves slapping me mid-breath, having to abandon rhythm completely at times. But in the moments I could, I returned to my training - to breath, to rhythm.

That’s the real shape of nervous system work. Not a smooth glide - ebb and flow, and sometimes a lot more ebb. You do what you need to survive, and when there’s space, you return.

For me, breathwork has been one way to practice that return 🌿

Trust is a nervous system experience 🌊
Last Sunday the Dam Divas completed a 10.6km swim across Lake Tinaroo 🌊 🏊‍♀️
2.5km of that was mine.

I was nervous. Staying out of my head. Trusting the process even when I couldn’t see what was ahead.

There’s something about trusting a paddler in open water when you can’t see where you’re going 🌊

You have to let go of control. Trust the process. And ultimately - trust yourself.

The nervous system finds safety in connection. In a paddler beside you. In a team who shows up. In a community that trains with you, laughs with you and believes in you
That’s co-regulation. That’s why community isn’t a soft addition to nervous system work - it’s the foundation.

The squad, our coaches Gaby, Theresa, the Dam Divas and everyone on that boat & at the finish line made this possible.

Body. Breath. Rhythm. And an Exhale. 😮‍💨

Pre-swim prep looks a little different around here 🫙😅

Meet the neti pot. Yes, it looks weird. Yes, it feels weirder! But when you’ve got the sniffles leading into an open water swim you do what you gotta do. 🤧

A neti pot flushes out your nasal passages with a saline solution, which can clear out congestion, allergens, and anything else that has no business being up there. The result? Clearer airways & better breathing which I need for swimming a long distance tomorrow👃🏻😤

Open water is nothing like a pool 🌊

Visibility almost gone. One sense virtually lost. And your heart knows it immediately.

That’s your nervous system doing exactly what it’s designed to do. 🧬

The moment I entered Lake Barrine today my sympathetic nervous system fired. Heart racing. Breath shallow. That surge of self doubt rising, “can I do this?”

But then, I found my paddler. And I found my breath.
Because safety comes first. And when you feel safe the nervous system begins to settle. Stroke by stroke. Breathing to one side every third stroke, then fourth - then switching sides - finding a rhythm that keeps you sighting your paddler without over breathing. A two beat kick slowing the heart rate down.

Unnecessary tension releasing. Reach lengthening. Grip and rip finding its rhythm.

That shift, from activation to regulation - is A Space to Breathe. Not just what I offer. But how I live.

Your nervous system isn’t broken when it reacts. It’s doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

The work is slowly and sustainably building the capacity to activate, and return. 🌿

One week until Lake Tinaroo 🏊‍♀️ Holy moly.

Body. Breath. Rhythm. And an Exhale.

Most of us have been taught that stress is something to avoid. To manage. To get rid of.

But your nervous system was never designed to live without it.

It was designed to move through it to activate, adapt, and return to balance.

The question isn’t how do I stop feeling stressed.
It’s - am I actually getting the chance to recover?
That’s where everything changes.

Nervous system informed. Science grounded. Human centred.

What does a 10km swim relay have to do with breathwork? Everything 🌿

The most swimming I have ever done in my life, and every session has taught me something.

But here’s what this training has shown me - the body adapts. The nervous system builds capacity. Not through force through consistency, community, breath and coaches who programme with purpose 🌿

And in open water - just like in a breathwork session - safety comes first. And when you feel safe, the breath becomes your anchor 🌬️ ⚓️

Safety comes from community, from trusted coaches and from showing up consistently until your nervous system knows - I’ve got this 💛

We’ve been training breathing patterns, two beat kick and grip and rip - all designed to find rhythm in the water without over activating the nervous system. More on that soon....

Three sessions a week. The incredible squad and the most amazing coaches Gaby and Theresa, who go above and beyond with programming that has genuinely built my capacity week by week. And four women, the Dam Divas, who show up for each other every single time.

Last week I swam 3km at squad. My biggest distance ever.
Still nervous. Still showing up.

What I’m learning, and living, is that the nervous system needs to restore before it can regulate. And regulation is what builds real resilience over time 🌿

A Space to Breathe isn’t what I offer - it’s what I’m constantly finding for myself 🌿 In the water, in life, in every exhale 🌊

Body. Breath. Rhythm. And an exhale.

Last weekend something extraordinary happened. 🎶

Two full days of gong training and workshop with the incredible Mae of - her knowledge, generosity and ability to hold space for our own creativity within the sound was extraordinary. She gave us the techniques and then the freedom to find our own voice within them. Truly remarkable teaching. 🎶

And then, an overnight puja to close it all. Over seven hours of gong, sound and ceremony. Five gongs in a cage at the centre of the room. Paiste, wind gong and instruments that vibrate at frequencies your whole body feels.

I played my own 45 minute set at 2.30am - fully immersed, tuned in. The kind of experience that reminds you why you do this work.

Sound works at a cellular level. We are mostly water - and water conducts vibration beautifully. Different frequencies shift brainwave states, stimulate the vagus nerve and invite the nervous system from activation into deep rest.

This is not performance. This is resonance.

The puja opened with the most beautiful Kundalini Yoga with the incredible to prime the bodies and nervous systems - and Sam not only held the closing Kindalini practice to bring us gently back, but her stunning studio held the entire experience. A space that had everything and more 🌿

And to the beautiful Beings I shared this with - playing alongside you was something I won’t forget 🤍

And I came home with a Triton Conch. 🐚
Because apparently once you start you don’t stop.

Breath. Body. Rhythm. And an Exhale. 🌿
