They had plans to buy a house to raise their girls in but have since been hit with this. Late August 2021, Dean was given the devastating and heart-breaking news that he has cancer. Specifically a rare and extremely aggressive form of lymphoma known as Burkitt's Lymphoma. Trying to stay positive through his initial diagnosis, whilst attempting to wrap his head around what this all meant, he was hi
t with more bad news, one after another. Here's a short reflection from Dean himself after spending the last month trying to take his diagnosis that will forever change his life. He posted this on social media to share with his friends as he knew what he was about to endure would require the support from everyone who cared about him . "August 17th 2021 - I present to Cairns E.D with severe stomach cramps. Few hours later and a couple urgent scans I get told something you never want to hear a DR say. "You have a 6cm tumour growing in your bowel, suspected bowel cancer" ...
Three days later, I go for surgery to remove almost 30cm of bowel, the tumour and all the lymph nodes. Fast forward 2 weeks after some pretty intense recovery, while I'm getting 32 staples pulled out, I get more bad news, bone biopsy results returned. We get the formal diagnosis of Lymphoma, NHL DLBCL sub Burkitts, which has now spread to other parts of the abdomen, liver, chest, lung and neck". We have started this page for Dean and his family to provide updates on Dean's journey, raise awareness, and show Dean lots of love and support from
A Go Fund Me has also been set up to raise money to support him, his wife, and kids through this unimaginable time, help to pay Deans medical bills, living costs and help relieve any extra stress as Dean will be unable to work for at least the next four months whilst undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The link for this Go Fund Me can be found on this page. Due to his weakened immune system Dean has been told that he is restricted to only one hospital visitor over the next four months which must be the same one person. This means that Dean will not be able to see his two daughters Harper (9) and Charlee (7). Please show Dean and his family your support by liking and inviting your friends to this page. We will be starting two movements for Dean to show him our love and support. These include:
- WEAR GREEN FOR DEAN - every Friday
- DANCE FOR DEAN - if you get challenged to 'Dance for Dean' for 10 secs, you must post a video of you completing this challenge + tag 3 friends to you want to challenge OR you are encourage to donate $5 to his Go Fund Me instead. For anyone wishing to send gifts to Dean and/or his Family please contact the page and we can provide you with a postal address.
