Rest builds resilience.

When life has been stressful or overwhelming, slowing down is not weakness.

It can be part of how we recover, reset, and regain capacity.

This weekend, try not to measure yourself only by what you get done.

Sometimes progress looks like giving yourself space to breathe.

If stress has been feeling heavier than usual, I’ve shared some more thoughts here:

Sometimes the hardest part is feeling like nobody really understands what you are carrying.

Disability, injury, diagnosis, stress, grief or major life changes can affect more than your health. They can affect your confidence, relationships, independence, identity and everyday life.

At Strong Foundation Support Counselling, I offer practical, respectful and down to earth counselling support for people who may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, burnt out or unsure where to go next.

What makes this support different?

1. I live with disability myself

So I understand that support needs to feel human, respectful and real.

2. I understand the NDIS space

I know how stressful it can feel when plans, services, providers or systems become overwhelming.

3. Counselling is flexible

Telehealth counselling is available Australia-wide by video or phone, so you can access support from home.

4. Support is practical

Counselling can help with emotional regulation, adjustment, grief, anxiety, stress, confidence, relationships and life changes.

5. You can start with a free call

A free 15-minute introduction call is available so you can see if it feels like the right fit.

After-hours and weekend appointments are available.

Most NDIS providers have that moment. You're staring at the price guide. Or a service agreement that doesn't look right. Or an invoice query you don't know how to answer. And you don't know who to call.

I'm building something called Speed Dial for exactly that moment. A 15-minute call. One problem. A clear answer. Then you get back to work.

I've been in the NDIS sector since 2018. This is the stuff I know.

Would providers actually use this?

Comment below and let me know before I build it.

Every one of those blocks represents a step that most people never have to take. Managing appointments, adapting your environment, pushing through pain, adjusting your expectations and still choosing to build upward. Placing that final block with the target on top is not a small thing. It is everything.

Living well with a disability deserves to be celebrated. Our disability counsellors in Cairns and across Australia via telehealth at Strong Foundation Support are here to help you keep building.

If you have any unused jumpers please consider donating to Wheels of Wellness

Update: Thank you very much Cairns! We have enough now.

Your unwanted jumper could be someone's much appreciated warmth this winter.

The weather is quickly cooling down, and we are seeing an increasing need for jumpers. If you have any unwanted jumpers in good condition please donate them to WoW by dropping them at our clinic, 330 Sheridan Street. They'll be appreciated by the homeless community of Cairns, and every jumper makes a difference.

Thank you Cairns, for helping us care for our community.

All those thumbs up from different hands, different backgrounds, all showing up together. When you are living with an injury, diagnosis, or disability you quickly find out who your people are.

The ones who do not need to fully understand what you are going through to still show up, still check in, and still stay. Those are the ones worth holding onto.

Strong Foundation Support is one of those people. Counselling for injury, disability, and chronic illness in Cairns and across Australia via telehealth.

I’ve learnt the hard way that you can burn yourself out trying to be there for people who wouldn’t cross the road for you.

As a counsellor, I see this a lot. Good people giving everything they have to relationships that give very little back.

Care about people.
Be kind.
But don’t keep emptying yourself for people who only show up when it suits them.

Invest in the people who invest in you.

That’s not selfish.

That stack of books wrapped in a stethoscope is a powerful image. For many people living with an injury, diagnosis, or disability, life can start to feel like it is defined by appointments, files, referrals, and reports. But you are not a file. You are not a diagnosis. You are a whole person with a story that goes far beyond any medical record.

At Strong Foundation Support we see the whole person, not just the condition. Counselling available in Cairns and across Australia via telehealth.

There is no shame in needing support.

A lot of people wait until they are completely overwhelmed before they reach out. They tell themselves they should be coping better, that other people have it worse, or that they just need to push through.

But needing support does not mean you are weak.

It can mean you have been holding too much for too long.

Sometimes support is having someone sit with you while you untangle what has been building up. Sometimes it is having a space where you do not have to explain yourself perfectly. Sometimes it is being able to say, “I’m not okay,” and not feel like you have to clean that up for someone else.

Counselling does not have to be about having all the right words.

It can start with where you are.

Even if that place feels tired, messy, uncertain, or heavy.

If this speaks to you, you are not alone.
