I had a dream a while ago, I was naked sitting next to a woman my age, 49. She was breast feeding her baby, very natural, stretch marks, older body, comfortable. Next to her, I remember looking down at my naked body with more acceptance.
I have been on a journey to accept my changing body in the threshold of menopause. In the dream there was peace and appreciation looking at myself. Then it was like I was looking at a picture of myself in an image, but it had an artistic quality, with shade from leaves overlaid over my body in the photo. I have been admiring and collecting these kinds of images on Pinterest. The image of self was mottled and looked poetic.
The woman handed me her baby to hold. It was actually a Hare instead of a baby. It felt normal and enjoyable; I picked it up and it stretched its front legs out like cats do sometimes when you pick them up. Its front paws reached up and rested right over my eyes for a few moments, covering my sight.
I am being called to bring more self-love and care and nurturance, kind eyes to my body and changing body image. Seeing myself more as a landscape, natural and earth like. I see it, enjoy this and easily celebrate other women, all ages, midlife and beyond… It has been a bit of a bumpy ride brining the same celebration to my self-image.
Thoughts of having to have it already all worked out have been swirling, the inner critic siphoning lifeforce. Though I am committed to self-love. On my path I have been practicing letting go, stepping into the unknown. Finding enthusiasm, excitement and wonder for the transformation. I found the shapeshifting Hare so intriguing, and it reminds me to embrace transformation, renewal, a different ancient and wise kind of fertile essence inside.
How has your journey with this been?
I have created a space to journey together to inspire, share, transform and be nourished in this season of life. With dance, somatic practices and herbal brews.
Wild Witch of the West begins October 11th.
