We would love to welcome everyone who wishes to attend our grand opening of our new office / connect space. It has been a huge undertaking this year from working from my home all around the kitchen , to a shared tiny room , towards being able to open to doors of our very own office. We are so beyond grateful for all that has come our way and would just love it if you could join us in our celebrations, after all we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing participants and team !!!

What a week it’s been , settling into our new space and spending time on the radio with Jessie and Joe , what a highlight of the week. Thanks guys for having us come and talk about our passion and love for what we do !

A big thank you to Laura and Lauren from WOW SupportsW for joining us on The Empower Hour today on Cairns FM 89.1.

We had a really great chat around what they’re building in the community, including the upcoming opening of the WOW Connect hub on Anderson Street on 5 June, along with some of the awesome programs they’re running around peer connection, gardening, cooking and building confidence through community participation.

We also chatted about some exciting programs WOW Supports are developing, including their Watch Them Grow initiative and their long-term vision for inclusive employment pathways right here in Cairns.

Today I get to share something with our community that I am genuinely incredibly proud of. 🤍

For years, as both a mother of children with additional needs and the owner of WOW Supports – Working on Wonders, I have dreamed of creating supports that go beyond simply supervising activities.

I wanted to build something meaningful.

A program where participants are not just “kept busy,” but actively supported to learn the real-life skills they need to grow in confidence, independence, emotional regulation, friendships and everyday life.

Something practical.
Something purposeful.
Something built with genuine love, care and understanding.

After years of learning, refining, researching and listening to families, we are finally launching our Functional Peer Skills, Daily Living & Emotional Regulation Program. 🤍

This 10-week program combines:

✨ Social skills
✨ Friendship building
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Daily living skills
✨ Meal preparation
✨ Community readiness
✨ Confidence building
✨ Real-life learning through fun and engagement

Participants learn things like:

• introducing themselves
• building and maintaining friendships
• coping with change
• recognising emotions and social cues
• preparing simple meals
• washing machine routines
• packing bags for outings
• booking appointments
• planning and independence skills
• and so much more

All while having fun, building connections and feeling safe and supported.

Every part of this program has been intentionally built slowly and thoughtfully to support neurodivergent participants in ways that are practical, respectful, PDA-friendly and genuinely helpful for real life.

Families and support workers are also included through weekly updates, home practice ideas and practical carryover supports because I strongly believe the best outcomes happen when we all work together cohesively.

This is not something I created overnight.
This comes from years of passion, lived experience, learning and wanting better for families in our community.

I wanted to create something I could stand behind with pride — and I truly do. 🤍

We also want our community to know that WOW Supports will continue listening, learning and thinking creatively about how we can support as many people as possible in meaningful ways.

We are so excited to now also be welcoming families into our new office space at:

📍 Office 4, 78–80 Anderson Street, Manunda

Our Monday groups are almost full with only TWO spots remaining, however we are now preparing to expand into additional groups due to demand.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, believed in and encouraged this vision along the way.

This is only the beginning for WOW Supports – Working on Wonders. 🤍

Growing, Cooking & Connecting – Wednesday Group Sessions (Northern Beaches)

Over time, we’ve been listening - to our participants, their interests, their goals, and also the quieter things… the wish to feel connected, to belong, and to be part of something meaningful.

From that, this idea has grown.

We are creating a shared Wednesday space where people don’t just attend a session, but become part of something that is built together over time. Some of our participants have already started this journey, and we’ve seen how valuable it can be. We are now opening this up to others who may be looking for the same connection.

Participants can choose to join:
- Gardening – growing and maintaining a shared veggie garden
- Cooking – preparing simple, healthy meals using garden produce where possible
- Beauty & Self-Care – building confidence through everyday routines with guidance from experienced staff

While each group has its own focus, they are all part of something bigger. Participants will have opportunities to connect across groups, share experiences, and sit down together for a shared lunch.

Our vision extends beyond the sessions themselves. We hope to grow enough produce to begin giving back - sharing food with participants who may not be able to cook for themselves. We also aim to offer the option for participants to attend the lunch component only, as a community outing with their own support workers (small fee applicable).

This is just the beginning of what we hope will grow into a meaningful, community-driven support that creates lasting impact in people’s lives.

When: Wednesdays, 10:00am – 2:00pm
Where: Northern Beaches
Transport: Available (shared cost)

Support Workers Wanted – Be Part of Something Different at WOW Supports

At WOW Supports (Working on Wonders), we’re not just delivering supports – we’re creating a new way of caring for people with autism and neurodivergence. Our approach goes beyond ticking boxes. We work on a deeper level, understanding how sound, light, and environmental factors impact wellbeing, and tailoring supports to truly meet individual needs.
We’re looking for Support Workers who share this vision – people who care deeply, who want to learn, and who are committed to making a real difference. You won’t be working alone; you’ll be part of a dedicated, collaborative team, guided by professionals like Occupational Therapists, and supported every step of the way.

Locations: Cairns City, South Side, and the Tablelands.
What we’re looking for:
Experience in disability support or a Cert III/IV in Disability, Individual Support, or similar
A genuine interest in neurodivergence and autism, and willingness to learn about sensory impacts (sound, light, external factors)

Someone who values quality over quantity and wants to deliver supports that truly matter
A team player who thrives in a connected, supportive environment

What you’ll love about WOW Supports:
A workplace that values knowledge, compassion, and innovation
Ongoing training and guidance from experienced professionals

Flexible shifts and a culture of collaboration
The chance to be part of something meaningful and transformative

If you’re ready to join a team that cares deeply and is committed to raising the standard of support, we’d love to hear from you.

INTERNATIONAL DISABILITY DAY :

What International Day of People with Disability Means to Us at WOW

For us at WOW, this day is a moment to pause and reflect on the lives of those who are living with disability — their strengths, their challenges, and the families who walk beside them every single day. It’s a day to acknowledge not only the impact disability can have, but also the courage, resilience, and heart that shine through in every small and big win.

It’s also a reminder of the work still ahead. The world is still learning to understand, accept, and speak the language of disability. There are barriers that remain, and struggles that continue — and we stand committed to supporting people through these, with our thinking caps on and our hearts on our sleeves.

To us, this day is about coming together, learning together, supporting one another, and celebrating every person for exactly who they are.

Today and every day, we celebrate all of you.
