STRONGER FOR LIFE ❤️🦴

Many people join our Bone Building classes thinking:

“I just want stronger bones.”

But something interesting often happens along the way.
A few weeks later, they start noticing changes they weren’t expecting…

✔ Carrying groceries feels easier
✔ Getting out of chairs takes less effort
✔ Stairs feel more manageable
✔ Walking feels steadier
✔ Balance improves
✔ Confidence grows
✔ Everyday activities become less tiring

Because bone health isn’t just about bone density.

It’s about building the foundations that support the life you want to keep living.

Strong bones rely on strong muscles and good nutrition. This helps with balance. Better balance can reduce falls risk. And when people feel stronger and more capable, they often move more—and movement itself helps support health.

That’s why our Bone Building classes at Stratford Health Hub focus on more than “exercise.”

We work on:

💪 Strength
⚖. Balance
🚶 Mobility
🦴 Bone-loading exercise
😊 Confidence in movement

Because the goal isn’t simply adding years to life.
It’s adding strength, independence and confidence to those years.

Whether your goal is travelling, gardening, playing with children or grandchildren, walking on the beach, carrying shopping, or simply feeling more steady and strong in your own body—these things matter.

You don’t have to become an athlete.
You just have to keep giving your body reasons to stay strong.

If moving with more confidence could help you do one thing more easily, what would it be?

BALANCE AND BONES GO TOGETHER ⚖️🦴

Building stronger bones is important.

Preventing falls? Just as important.
Many fractures happen because of a fall—not simply because bone density changes.

The good news? Balance is a skill, and like strength, it can improve with practice.

At Stratford Health Hub, our Balance Classes are designed to help improve stability, confidence and movement control in a safe environment. They can be a great addition alongside our Bone Building classes because stronger bones are important—but reducing falls risk is equally valuable.

Small practice. Big impact.

Have you ever noticed that your balance feels different compared to 10 years ago?

POST 4: Bone Building Tip of the week: Protein matters more than many people realise 💡

When we think about bone health, calcium usually gets all the attention. But did you know that bone is made of a protein framework (mainly collagen) and it is this protein framework what gives bone its structure, strength, and resilience. Calcium helps harden and mineralise that framework.

Without enough protein, bones don’t rebuild as effectively.
That’s why it’s important to include protein regularly throughout your day:
🥚 Eggs
🥜 Nuts and seeds
🐟 Fish and meats
🫘 Beans and legumes
🥛 Dairy or fortified alternatives

Think of protein as the “scaffolding” that bones are built on.
Strong bones don’t just need calcium — they need the building blocks to remodel and stay resilient.

That’s why, at Stratford Health Hub, our dietitian Jen works with you to help build the right mix of foods and nutrients to support strong, healthy bones.

“Do you know if your diet contains enough proteins and minerals?”

Bone Health part 3: The Silent Condition 👀

Osteoporosis is often called the “silent condition” or “silent thief of bone.”

Why?
Because bone loss can progress for years without any obvious symptoms. Many people don’t realise they have osteoporosis until a fracture occurs — sometimes from something as minor as a small fall, a simple bend and twist or a harder than planned foot landing or jump.
Remember, your bones are living tissue, constantly being broken down and rebuilt. When more bone is lost than replaced, they gradually become weaker over time.

So what might show up before a fracture?
While early bone loss is often silent, there can be subtle clues:
• Loss of height over time
• A more rounded or stooped posture
• Back pain that just won’t budge
• Balance changes or reduced stability
• A previous low-impact fracture

So here’s the key message
What happens AFTER a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis matters just as much as the diagnosis itself.
Bone responds to load. It adapts to stress. When we stop loading it, it weakens further. That’s why movement is medicine.

Strength training, appropriate impact loading, and balance work are all strongly supported in research for maintaining or improving bone strength and reducing fracture risk.
At Stratford Health Hub, we can help you to make an evidence based and individualise program to help you on your bone health journey

“Do you think bone health is something we talk about early enough?” 👇

Walking.... Is It Enough For Your Bones? 🚶

Walking is fantastic for heart health, mood, mobility and overall wellbeing. It keeps us active, improves fitness and has enormous health benefits. But here’s something many people don’t realise: it may not be enough to maintain your bones!

Bones need load.

Research shows that bones respond best to forces placed through them — particularly when muscles pull on bone during resistance and strength-based activities. This process creates a stimulus that tells the body: “We still need these bones to stay strong.”While walking is excellent exercise, studies suggest that walking alone may not provide a strong enough stimulus to significantly maintain or improve bone density, especially as we age.

To challenge bone, think activities that require higher effort, such as:
✔ Sit-to-stands
✔ Step-ups
✔ Resistance exercises
✔ Strength challenges
✔ Weight-bearing and appropriate and safe impact activities

The goal isn’t simply movement — it’s the right kind of movement.

At Stratford Health Hub, our Bone Building classes are designed around the types of exercise research supports for bone health. We focus on safely progressing strength, balance and bone-loading activities in a supervised environment, helping people build stronger bones while also improving confidence, muscle strength and reducing falls risk.
Strong muscles + strong bones = a powerful combination for staying active and independent.

Your Bones Are Alive (Yes, Really!) 🦴

Did you know your bones are living tissue? They are constantly rebuilding themselves throughout your entire life.

Your body is always breaking down old bone and building new bone, every day of your life. The challenge is that as we get older, the balance slowly starts to change.

For women, one of the biggest shifts happens around menopause.
As oestrogen levels fall, bone breakdown can speed up significantly, and women can lose bone more rapidly during the years around and after menopause.

For men, bone loss usually happens more gradually and later in life, often becoming more noticeable from the 60s–70s.

The good news?
Bones respond to challenge.
Bone-building exercise sends a message to your skeleton: “We still need these bones strong!”

Small and consistent actions matter:
✔ Strength training
✔ Weight-bearing and impact exercise
✔ Balance exercises
✔ Enough protein and bone-supporting nutrients

At Stratford Health Hub, our Bone Building classes are specifically designed to safely and progressively challenge your bones, muscles and balance. We focus on the types of exercises research shows help stimulate bone strength while also improving muscle mass, posture, confidence and balance.

This is all because stronger bones aren’t built overnight — they’re built through small, consistent actions over time.

Question: How old were you when you learned your bones are constantly remodelling themselves?
