🌿 Neuro Wellness Weekend – now that was really something special🌿

What a beautiful couple of mornings we all had together!
We found muscles that had been long forgotten 😄, discovered there was a lot more balance involved than some of us expected, and realised we could actually do things we weren’t quite sure we could do!

We learnt so much about Yoga and Qigong – where it comes from, the thinking behind it, and had the chance to practise some of these ancient movements ourselves.

We were taken through some wonderful yoga poses and QiGong movements to make the life energy flow, explored breathwork, and experienced different forms of meditation, including sound meditation. We had the best morning tea, plenty of movement, plenty of learning, lots of laughter, and then some very deep relaxation afterwards. A few people may even have nodded off once the physical part was over! 😴 Talking about deep relaxation!

By the end of it, we all walked out feeling a little lighter, calmer and almost floating. This was just what we needed!

A huge thank you to Ruth and Wendy for sharing your incredible depth of experience with us, but especially for the positivity, warmth and fun you brought to the weekend. You made everyone feel comfortable enough to explore something different, have a go and enjoy it.

And thank you to everyone who came along and threw themselves into it. What a lovely group of people to spend a weekend with. 💚

Neuro Wellness Weekend – we might just have to do this again!

Meet the presenters of our Neuro Wellness weekend: Ruth and Wendy!

We are super pleased to announce that we have two amazing women flying up from Brisbane to guide our Neuro Wellness mornings on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September.
Wendy and Ruth have a special connection with Cairns and are very excited to be coming back north to take us on a journey into the wonderful world of Yoga, Qigong, breathwork and meditation.
Both are experienced practitioners and teachers, and over the weekend they’ll introduce us to some beautiful ways to move, breathe, slow down and reconnect with ourselves.

And don’t worry if you’ve never tried any of this before! Everything will be gentle and adapted so you can participate in a way that works for you — seated or standing, with plenty of time to rest and simply enjoy the experience.
It’s not about being flexible, getting the movements perfect or being “good” at meditation. It’s about trying something different, having a bit of fun and discovering what helps you feel good.

We’re so excited to have Wendy and Ruth joining us for this special weekend and can’t wait for you to meet them!

Wendy is a Level 3 Qigong Instructor and Yin Yoga specialist with over 10 years of teaching experience, bringing her expertise in gentle, therapeutic movement to the Neuro Wellness Weekend. She has studied under world-renowned teachers Bernie Clark, Jo Phee, and Master Tevia Feng, founder of White Tiger Qigong.
For this program, Wendy leads the Qigong sessions, guiding participants through slow, flowing movements that support balance, coordination, and motor control. Drawing on Qigong's meditative quality, her sessions are designed to ease muscle tension, calm the nervous system, and reduce the stress and fatigue that can worsen neurological symptoms.
Wendy's calm, nurturing teaching style makes these practices accessible to all — whether seated or standing, at your own pace — supporting participants living with neurological conditions and their care partners.

Ruth has been teaching and enjoying the benefits of yoga for many years. She trained as a teacher with the International Teachers Association in 2001 and has continued her studies in many aspects of yoga including Yoga therapy, meditation, breathwork, alignment based practices and mental health. As a recognised teacher to Veterans who often present with PTSD, she has worked with a range of conditions including Parkinson's and other neurological challenges. She has developed training programs for teachers and has enjoyed the benefits of spreading the benefits of yoga to the wider community.
Ruth works weekly with students from Retirement Centres and is a specialist Chair Yoga teacher where students present with varying, but often multiple conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and their related conditions. She enjoys the challenge of providing accessible yoga poses, breathing practices and meditation, and is creative in offering props and support to enhance the experience of the student.

✨ Neuro wellness: A Morning of Qigong, Yoga, Breathwork & Meditation ✨

We all benefit from taking time to slow down, find calm, move with intention, and reconnect with ourselves. This morning is an opportunity to experience simple practices that can support your wellbeing, whatever stage of life you're in.

We're incredibly fortunate to have two amazing women, Wendy and Ruth, joining us from Brisbane. Between them they bring a wealth of experience working with people living with neurological conditions, and they'll be leading this special weekend of Qigong, Yoga, Breathwork and Meditation.
We'll be introducing Wendy and Ruth properly over the coming days, but for now we're simply excited to have them travelling to Cairns to share these wonderful practices with our community.

They've created these mornings to simply give you the opportunity to experience four gentle practices that many people find calming, restorative, and enjoyable. Whether you're completely new to them or have always been curious, this is a chance to explore what they have to offer in a relaxed and supportive environment.

This event is designed specifically for people living with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, brain injury, stroke, dementia, or other neurological conditions. Family members / carers can also attend.

Together, they'll guide you through:
🌿 Qigong
🧘 Yoga
🌬️ Breathwork
💙 Meditation

Research suggests these practices can help regulate the body's stress response, promote relaxation, improve body awareness, and support both physical and mental wellbeing. Many people also find they leave feeling calmer, more centred, and better equipped to manage the challenges of everyday life.

There are no expectations, no previous experience required, and everything can be adapted to suit your comfort level.
Come along, try something new, and give yourself permission to slow down.

We are super proud to present our newest addition to Stratford Health Hub: Rukmani Hart— Speech Pathologist.

Ruki:
“ I am the founder of NeuPath Parkinson’s Voice, North Queensland’s dedicated speech pathology service for people living with Parkinson’s disease. I am local to the region and completed my speech pathology studies at James Cook University in Townsville in 2010. Since then, I have built over 15 years’ experience as a speech pathologist locally and overseas, focusing on neuro-rehabilitation for the past 13 years.

Around two years ago, I left the public service in Cairns to establish NeuPath Speech Rehabilitation Pty Ltd, predominantly working with people with Parkinson’s disease and following acquired brain injury, such as stroke. As my caseload grew to be more than half Parkinson’s-related, I recognised a clear gap: while the evidence for certain Parkinson’s communication and swallowing treatments is strong, only a small percentage of people actually have access to them. This drove me to launch NeuPath Parkinson’s Voice, offering services in Cairns, Townsville and via telehealth Australia-wide.

At Stratford Health Hub, I support clients and their family members with the communication changes associated with Parkinson’s, including speech and voice using evidence-based approaches such as LSVT LOUD, language, cognitive communication and social communication. I also support swallowing, using treatments such as Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) where appropriate, and provide guidance on saliva management.

I am passionate about connecting people with the right treatment for their situation and keeping pace with the fast-evolving world of Parkinson’s research and its application to communication and swallowing.

Outside of work, I enjoy camping, cycling, hiking, reading and gardening, and treasure time with my family.”

Welcome Ruki! We are loving having you around!

STRONGER FOR LIFE ❤️🦴

Many people join our Bone Building classes thinking:

“I just want stronger bones.”

But something interesting often happens along the way.
A few weeks later, they start noticing changes they weren’t expecting…

✔ Carrying groceries feels easier
✔ Getting out of chairs takes less effort
✔ Stairs feel more manageable
✔ Walking feels steadier
✔ Balance improves
✔ Confidence grows
✔ Everyday activities become less tiring

Because bone health isn’t just about bone density.

It’s about building the foundations that support the life you want to keep living.

Strong bones rely on strong muscles and good nutrition. This helps with balance. Better balance can reduce falls risk. And when people feel stronger and more capable, they often move more—and movement itself helps support health.

That’s why our Bone Building classes at Stratford Health Hub focus on more than “exercise.”

We work on:

💪 Strength
⚖. Balance
🚶 Mobility
🦴 Bone-loading exercise
😊 Confidence in movement

Because the goal isn’t simply adding years to life.
It’s adding strength, independence and confidence to those years.

Whether your goal is travelling, gardening, playing with children or grandchildren, walking on the beach, carrying shopping, or simply feeling more steady and strong in your own body—these things matter.

You don’t have to become an athlete.
You just have to keep giving your body reasons to stay strong.

If moving with more confidence could help you do one thing more easily, what would it be?

BALANCE AND BONES GO TOGETHER ⚖️🦴

Building stronger bones is important.

Preventing falls? Just as important.
Many fractures happen because of a fall—not simply because bone density changes.

The good news? Balance is a skill, and like strength, it can improve with practice.

At Stratford Health Hub, our Balance Classes are designed to help improve stability, confidence and movement control in a safe environment. They can be a great addition alongside our Bone Building classes because stronger bones are important—but reducing falls risk is equally valuable.

Small practice. Big impact.

Have you ever noticed that your balance feels different compared to 10 years ago?
