This week feels like one of those times when celebration and loss sit side by side🤍✨️🤍
Today, the 28th in New Zealand, my beautiful granddaughter Harper celebrates her 1st birthday🩷🎉
On the 30th August, it will be one year since we lost Mum💔
And then on the 1st September, I celebrate my birthday 🎂a birthday I share with my beautiful daughter Chloe🩷🎉🩷
So within just a few days there are birthdays, milestones, memories, celebration and grief all woven together.
And if I'm truthful, over these past few days I've felt overwhelmed at times by everything that's approaching.
I'm beginning to understand something about myself through all of this.
When I'm processing a lot emotionally, I naturally go inward.
As a sensitive person, I need quiet. I need solitude. I need time in my own space to process what I'm feeling rather than always trying to put it into words.
But there's a contradiction within me that I'm only really beginning to understand.
Even when I need the quiet, I also need the invitation to talk and need connection.
Sometimes I just want someone to just intuitively know what I need and when.
Rather than being the person and says, “Can I talk about Mum today? And I might desperately want someone to ask me about her, for a story, to say her name, to remember something about her with me.
Or just to give me the invitation to express what is sitting beneath my silence.
Although, I am realising not everyone has that capacity to do that which comes naturally to me.
For me I do intuitively know where expression might help, its part of my Gift and my work, so its does feel different when you not surrounded by others who can offer this too.
Maybe for them they're uncomfortable with these conversations or simply dont know what to say.
I'm realising that needing solitude doesn't necessarily mean I want to be left alone with everything I'm carrying.
And perhaps this is part of what I've been trying to understand about the different GRIEF LANGUAGES we all have💛
One person may need to talk. Another may need quiet. One reaches out. Another retreats. One remembers dates and anniversaries deeply, while another experiences them completely differently.
None of it necessarily means we care more or less.
But sometimes, in that space between us, silence grows.
Perhaps part of navigating loss is learning to give ourselves permission to say, “This is a difficult day for me,” without needing anyone to fix it 🦋 and also learning to ask someone we love, “What do you need from me today?”
So this week I'm allowing all of it.
The birthdays 🎂🎂🎂The celebrations🎉 The memories. The distance. The missing😫The solitude. The connection. The gratitude. And the grief💔
Because I'm learning that moving forward doesn't mean leaving our losses behind.
Sometimes life asks us to carry celebration in one hand and grief in the other and make room for both💫
And somewhere within my own journey through grief, loss and significant change, a little seed has begun to grow...
🤍✨️BEYOND THE SILENCE✨️ 🤍
Something that is still quietly taking shape, born from my own lived experience and particularly through these past three months here in the UK.
I've been learning so much during this time about my own patterns, communication, connection and my need to express and what can happen when that expression isn't there.
I'm beginning to understand that sometimes, through grief, loss and significant change;
not only through death, but through the many changes, endings and transitions life brings us, what we need most is simply a safe space to express what sits within the silence.
Not everyone finds it easy to reach out or begin the conversation.
Sometimes we need an invitation to express what we're carrying.
And I believe there can be something very special about finding that connection within a community outside of our immediate family and friends — somewhere we don't have to explain everything or have all the answers, but can simply share, listen, connect and feel heard.
Beyond the Silence is the beginning of creating that space.
More details will be coming as it continues to take shape, with the hope of beginning this new community towards the end of October/November.
Perhaps this is where my own journey has been quietly leading me🌹
If this space that's currently in creation feels like something you may be interested in, please feel free to message me. There is absolutely no commitment — I'd simply love to hear what resonates with you and what you might be looking for from a space like this.
Much love
