Five years! One very loved team. 🎈

This week we swapped the clinic lunchroom for a picnic rug lakeside to celebrate five years of Zoe Allied Health and to say “Thank You” to the people who make it what it is. 🩷

From a 1 day room hire, 3 clients and 1 team member with a heart to love and serve others, to two Sunshine Coast clinics and an incredible team of women who genuinely care about every person who walks through our doors and into Zoe’s care locally and globally. We’re so proud of how far we’ve come, and even prouder of who we’ve become along the way.

To our team - you are Zoe, truly the DreamTeam. You make people’s lives better, every day. You allow us to provide life-giving and life-changing supports to people you may never even get to meet. It’s a privilege to serve you. Thank you for five beautiful years. Here’s to the next five. 💙

If someone told you to only speak English at home they were trying to help, but the research doesn't support it.

Bilingualism doesn't cause speech or language delay. It doesn't confuse children. And it certainly doesn't mean you should sacrifice the language that connects your child to your family, your culture, and their identity. 🌿

Here's what we know:

→ Children raised bilingually reach the same developmental milestones as monolingual peers, vocabulary is just distributed across two languages.
→ Code-switching (mixing languages mid-sentence) is developmentally appropriate between two to four year age range.
→ The figure to watch is total vocabulary across ALL languages combined.

If you have genuine concerns about your child's speech development, not because they're bilingual, but because something feels off regardless of which language you're using, come and have a conversation with us. We work with multilingual families every week. ✨

Bilingual parenting is a gift, enjoy it 🫶

We have loved having our students here as part of our Dream Team — they are amazing! 💙

Plot twist… student takeover 😆😆

Thank you to the Zoe team for supporting, celebrating, and serving us throughout our placement. We have learnt and grown so much, and you have helped us feel well equipped and very excited for our future as occupational therapists!

Meet Sarah! ✨

Sarah trained at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, graduating in 2022, and has been working as a Speech Pathologist in Australia, accredited with Speech Pathology Australia, working across early language, speech sound development, and supporting children and adolescents through every stage of their journey. 🌿

What stood out to us when we met her was her joy. Sarah lights up talking about the families she works with, and she brings real curiosity, skill, and heart to every session. 💙🙌

She's the kind of practitioner who will serve, support, and celebrate alongside you and we couldn't be happier to have her on the team!

Join with us in welcoming Sarah! 👋

Your 3-year-old might have a 'speech thing', or it might be more specific than that.

Speech sound development follows a predictable sequence. By 3, most children are understood by both familiar and unfamiliar adults around 75% of the time. By 4, that rises to close to 100%. 💬🗣

If you're often translating at kindy pick-up, at family gatherings, or over FaceTime with grandparents, that's good information.

Here's what often surprises families:

→ The child can usually understand everything you say.
→ They know exactly what they want to communicate.
→ The disconnect is at the level of producing specific sounds, and that's something Speech Pathology can support. 🌿

Early support isn't about drilling a child to talk differently. It's play-based, it's specific to the sounds that matter right now, and it works best when it starts before school.

No referral needed. No diagnosis required.

Save this post for later or send it to a parent who's been quietly wondering or worrying whether to say something, we'd love to help. 🌻

You may have heard of terms like “IQ test” or “cognitive assessment” and wondered what they really mean 💭

At Zoe Allied Health, we know that anything involving testing can feel a little overwhelming at first - but it doesn’t have to be. Cognitive assessments are simply tools that help us better understand how a child thinks, learns, and processes the world around them.

Rather than something to worry about, these assessments can offer valuable insights that help guide support, learning strategies, and future pathways in a way that truly meets each child where they’re at.

Our psychologist Grace has shared a simple breakdown to help make sense of it all 🤍
