A Personal Ritual to Honour the Goddess Sekhmet

Choose a quiet place where you can remain undisturbed. Place an image or symbol of Sekhmet before you, together with a red or gold candle and a small bowl of cool water. If you wish, burn frankincense or another resin incense.

Light the candle and sit quietly for a few moments. Feel your breathing settle and become aware of the warmth of the flame.

Say: Sekhmet, Powerful One,
Lady of Flame and Eye of Ra,
Mistress of strength and protection,
I honour you and welcome your presence.

Look into the flame. Consider where you need courage, strength or decisive action in your life. Sekhmet’s fire can represent the burning away of what has become harmful, stagnant or false.

Hold your hands over the bowl of water and imagine her fierce solar fire meeting its coolness. Let this represent balance - power guided by wisdom, anger transformed into purpose and strength tempered by restraint.

Dip your fingers into the water and touch your forehead and heart.

Say: May I carry strength without cruelty, courage without recklessness, and fire without destruction.

Remain quietly for a few moments, contemplating Sekhmet and her qualities.

When you are ready, thank her for her presence. Extinguish the candle and pour the water onto the earth as an offering.
