Opportunity can change a life. And it can help change healthcare.

The Aspen Medical Foundation believes people living with disability should have the opportunity to pursue their ambitions, develop their talents and contribute their skills to their communities.

That’s why we’re proud to open applications for the 2027 Aspen Medical Foundation Fiji Disability Scholarship – supporting a Fijian person living with disability to pursue a health-related university qualification and build a future in Fiji’s health sector. 🎓

Aspen Medical Disability Inclusion Lead Ben Clare, who launched the scholarship last week in Fiji, said the scholarship reflected the Foundation’s commitment to creating greater opportunity and inclusion.

“People living with disability have an enormous contribution to make to healthcare. This scholarship is about helping remove some of the barriers to education and giving someone the opportunity to build a career where they can make a real difference to their community,” he said.

Let’s remove barriers, create opportunities and help build a more inclusive healthcare workforce.

What started as a goal to provide one new Brailler became two, thanks to the generosity of our global Aspen Medical team.

Our Disability Inclusion Lead, Ben Clare, has presented the new Braillers to Lautoka School for Special Education in Fiji's Western District where we manage Lautoka and Ba public hospitals. This latest donation brings the total number donated by the Aspen Medical Foundation to the school to three.

The machines will support five visually impaired students, giving them greater access to braille and the opportunities that come with literacy, learning and independence.

Aspen Medical was delighted to match the team's fundraising efforts.

A huge thank you to everyone across Aspen Medical who donated! 🙏

What happens when world-class cardiac care is available closer to home?

For hundreds of people across Fiji's Western Division, it means faster access to specialist treatment, better outcomes and less need to travel overseas.

The Public-Private Partnership between the Fiji Government and Aspen Medical is continuing to strengthen cardiac care at Lautoka Hospital by delivering advanced specialist services where they're needed most.

To date, the partnership has delivered:

❤️ 1,000+ cath lab procedures

🩺 796 coronary angiograms

🏥 417 open heart surgeries

🫀 134 life-saving interventions to open blocked arteries

🌴 more patients receiving care in Fiji instead of travelling overseas

🌏 local clinical capability built to international standards.

These milestones represent far more than numbers. They reflect lives changed, stronger local healthcare capability and better access to specialist cardiac services for the people of Fiji.

Together, we're continuing to invest in people, infrastructure and innovation to help build a healthier future for Fiji and the wider Pacific

What happens when our aeromedical retrieval teams aren't responding to a mission?

They're training.

Again. And again.

Every scenario they practice helps build the teamwork, confidence and clinical skills needed when every second counts.

Our clinicians, aircrew and ground teams train together because great patient outcomes depend on everyone working as one team.

Congratulations to Amanda Beecroft, who is celebrating 15 years with Aspen Medical this month. 👏

Registered Nurse Amanda joined our team in the Solomon Islands in 2011 where we were supporting the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) before moving to Timor-Leste as part of our support for the Australian Defence Force during Operation Astute.

In 2013, Amanda joined our maritime healthcare team serving aboard vessels around Australia, and she’s stayed with that team ever since.

Amada said: "I’ve had a fabulous career on or near the water with Aspen Medical over the past 15 years. The work has been engaging, and of course, challenging at times. I have travelled to some incredible places - Sri Lanka, Cocos Islands, the Kimberley - and I've met amazing people and made lifelong friends along the way.

"I've had the privilege of working alongside Dr Madeleine Wilcock for many years and over that time we have built an incredible partnership grounded in trust, support and shared experience."

🚁 What does it take for a successful remote HEMS retrieval? It demands skill, calm and teamwork.

Aspen Medical critical care paramedic Matt Hunter supported the winch retrieval of a patient from a cruise ship off the coast of Western Australia, helping transfer them safely to hospital for further care.

It’s a terrific example of the capability, experience and composure required to deliver healthcare in challenging and remote environments by all involved – the helicopter crew and healthcare professionals.

Congratulations to our colleague, Dr Abhishek Kumar Verma OAM, who was recognised in the King's Birthday Honours List 2026 for service to medicine and medical administration.

Abhishek is the GP Quality and Compliance Lead in our Digital Health team.

"Receiving this honour was truly unexpected, but it gave me pause to reflect that I am so privileged, as a GP, to contribute positively to the health journey of others. For me, this is not a personal accolade, but a tribute to the amazing people around me who have shaped my own journey," he said.
